FishingBuds Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 Does a members avatar pic affect your getting along with them or do you not care. I really gotta ask this because I was PM'd on another forum by a member over a opinion about fishing line(long story but we had a heated discussion on why I wasn't gonna go back to spider line) but in the end he slipped in that I should change my avatar pic, which is the same one I use here. when I asked why? He said first impressions is everything, and that was it. : ;D I had to tell ya about what happened so you can see where im coming from on my question, I have no clue why my avatar pic offends him nor has he attempted to explain but after laughing about it to myself I got curious and wanted to see if others are affected by forum members avatar pics? So lets see if ya can be honest about it. I don't judge a member by his avatar pic, but I complained about one sometime back cause it had a motion pic that I thought would have been inappropriate for younger viewers. Quote
frogtog Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 I don't know if it reflects on a person or not. I can tell you this, Burley has the best looking avatar on the web. Quote
D4u2s0t Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 if you were in a heated discussion, he probably just was trying to tick you off... I don't see how anyone can say anything bad about your pic. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 9, 2010 Super User Posted July 9, 2010 Nothing wrong with your avatar. IMO a negative comment regarding an avatar displays someones anger towards that person. On the opposite side feeling bad about some ones opinion may a bit too thin skinned. Of all the problems we encounter on a daily basis, a forum member's opinion on a pic is low on my list of concerns. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted July 9, 2010 Super User Posted July 9, 2010 Roadwarrior's avatar is misleading. Everyone on here that I have ever met has felt the same way. ;D Quote
Big Tom Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 Avatars don't really bother me one way or the other. There are some pretty good ones on here. I can't find anything wrong with your avatar either. Some people make no sense. Quote
bigfruits Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 your avatar is fine. its not like it shows any violence towards a child or anything. Quote

LOL, Im in no way bothered, hint the laughing face when I posted, and of course I haven't asked what anyone thought of my avatar, maybe the movie but not my pic ;D and I realize how weirdy he was to defend spider wire so PASSIONANTLY. It just kicked my funny bone into gear to see how many more of these PASSIONANTE people are out there over avatar Pics Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 9, 2010 Super User Posted July 9, 2010 Roadwarrior's avatar is misleading. Everyone on here that I have ever met has felt the same way. ;D Misleading? He has great arm length pose on those fish, that's the way to photograph them, could they be held out any further? I love it. Quote

Once (if) you do, you will get it. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 9, 2010 Super User Posted July 9, 2010 I think he means I'm not quite as tall or broad in the shoulders as Howie Long! : Quote

BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted July 9, 2010 BassResource.com Administrator Posted July 9, 2010 We really only have 4 rules about avatars here: 1. They can't be percieved as advertising (Any logo that isn't a sport team, for example). 2. They can't be lewd. I realize this one can be subjective in nature, so we try to interpret intent on the gray area ones, and make a ruling based on that. 3. They can't depict, portray, or encourage illegal acts. Again, intent applies here as well. 4. No political or religious images at all, regardless of positive, negative, funny or otherwise. There's no gray area here. A 5th unwritten rule is, "They can't look like Burley", but unfortunately half the population of Alabama looks like him, so it's hard to enforce. ;D Quote
done Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 It is ridiculous. I mean the only type of avatar that gets me upset is one with a guy sitting down with his family and even then, unless he like totally hates spider wire and will never use it, i can over look it. Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 I tried to put the Teamsters logo as my avatar, but someone kept deleting it... : Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 I doubt an avatar would make that much difference. To judge someone soely on that would be stupid. Heck in your case I can't even see it well enough to know what it is. I don't know if it is yur family or a pic from a movie? Re Burley's pic: Man what a true outdoorsman; did anyone else notice him wearing a woolen t-shirt? Then the shirt that reads "Certified Nut Western authority" is very befitting don't you think? J/K Burls, Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted July 10, 2010 Super User Posted July 10, 2010 if you were in a heated discussion, he probably just was trying to tick you off... I don't see how anyone can say anything bad about your pic. Can't recall a picture bothering me, nor does this picture bother me, and I don't really care if people smoke pot, though illegal, its the lesser of the evils out there imo. Your screen name hints of doing drugs, hence the international symbol of 420 in your screen name. DU smoke Ot? Thus, if you didn't, why put something into your screen name that hints you do? Quote

LOL thats pretty wild how you figure all that into my screen name, This maybe what the crazy dude thinks. I can understand a user or ex-user will always look at the word Buds a certain way. The pic is of me and my two kids at Lincoln park and my user name is short for Fishing Buddies, which is what I would and still call my kids when we go fishing. As for drugs? I've been sober and drug free for 18+ years. I will admit that Im prejudice against drugs and liquor now, usually someone that has to fight for their life back from these addictions feels this way so Im sorry if my username offends you. whats 420 mean Matt, thats something I don't understand. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 10, 2010 Super User Posted July 10, 2010 I thought the same as you fishingbuds, but the reference is to another screen name not yours. D4u2s0t....who made a post, only a head would pickup on that. The term 420 started out in a high school in California in the early 70's where a group of kids use the term 420 to signify that at 20 minutes after 4 it was light up time. Some others think it started as the police code for a pot bust was 420. Quote
Captain Obvious Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 I'm hoping my picture hasn't made anyone mad since it is a alcohol logo I just was looking for some thing that kinda went with Captain and I thought most people know Capt. Morgan. Besides I don't even like rum or drinks with rum Capt.O Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted July 12, 2010 Super User Posted July 12, 2010 Preposterous. Stay thirsty. Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 13, 2010 Super User Posted July 13, 2010 Yes, an avatar has an affect on the individual viewing it. Does the picture or photo give the impression you are a serious or fun person? Take Dave S.'s avatar. It is a child in a bunny suit against a fence which makes no sense. So do we take Dave's posts seriously? The avatar is an extension of the individuals personality and I am sure a shrink would have a fun time viewing them. My photo is what a bass sees right before he hits a live crawfish. Plus the fact that I love to eat crawfish. Just my two cents. Quote
