Super User Root beer Posted June 18, 2010 Super User Posted June 18, 2010 Maybe if there was a world cup football tournament (the American version with the pigskin) we would actually win few games.... : The American goalkeeper just completely froze on that 1st score.... Quote
soccplayer07 Posted June 24, 2010 Author Posted June 24, 2010 What a game yesterday. has to be the best game i have ever seen. simply incredible. Quote
brushhoggin Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 10#10 date=1275692457]You need to watch some EPL matches next season, Sam. That truly is the best soccer. Yes, the World Cup is great, it's really something special. But the Premiership is leaps and bounds beyond what the Cup is as far as competition goes. There are teams in the world cup that will be lucky to get a single point. In the EPL though, you really never know what the heck is going to happen. agreed. absolutely amazing skills. (watch arsenal) Oh, and viva dutch!! Always been a fan of total football, these guys are artists. But in all honesty, Spain and Germany will be the big wigs this time. Still can't believe Russia didn't make it. dang, i'm good. come on clockwork!! Quote
Super User 5bass Posted July 7, 2010 Super User Posted July 7, 2010 dang, i'm good. come on clockwork!! What is this in reference to? Quote
brushhoggin Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 clockwork orange. nickname for hollands national team due to their precision passing Quote
Super User 5bass Posted July 7, 2010 Super User Posted July 7, 2010 clockwork orange. nickname for hollands national team due to their precision passing I was actually referring to the 'dang i'm good' part Quote
brushhoggin Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 oh that post i quoted was before the world cup started, just made a few good predictions. bein a silly ego really Quote
Super User 5bass Posted July 7, 2010 Super User Posted July 7, 2010 I called Dutch 7 days before you did Quote
brushhoggin Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 I called Dutch 7 days before you did Well done! actually i was just pullin for the Dutch and mentioned spain and germany as big wigs Quote
Super User 5bass Posted July 7, 2010 Super User Posted July 7, 2010 They'll lose just because I picked 'em ;D The Spain/Germany game was crappy. Germany just couldn't get it going and Spain wasn't much better....except for that one corner. Quote
brushhoggin Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 No it'll be a good game. i was hoping for a repeat of the 74 world cup cause i wasn't around yet to catch it. ;D i agree todays game was lame. this world cup has been weird. sub-standard officiating, the horns, and that ball man, i hate the ball they're using. wiggles around too much when it's hit towards goal. now if the players meant to make it curve away from the goalie at the last second when shot, it'd be different. Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted July 7, 2010 Super User Posted July 7, 2010 Sure sure, blame the ball. Even though most players strive to intentionally hit the knuckling ball. Don't blame the altitude at all. The games that have been at sea level have seen some fantastic shots taken. Quote
brushhoggin Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 thats the thing. true the altitude allows the ball to travel 5% faster way above sea level. and yes they strive for a moving knuckle ball, but they don't control the direction in which the ball knuckles. A big part of footie is the precision. having the vision to place a ball exactly where it's intended to go is a great skill that makes the game so beautiful to watch. i have a feeling they made the ball that way for entertainment purposes. A lot of people who don't normally watch soccer are finally watching, and FIFA wants a good first impression. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 7, 2010 Super User Posted July 7, 2010 Geez... Does this ever end? Real football starts in a couple of weeks. Thank God! : Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted July 7, 2010 Super User Posted July 7, 2010 Praying it will be over soon. Only reason to go/watch is for the riots. Quote
brushhoggin Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Geez... Does this ever end? Real football starts in a couple of weeks. Thank God! : Actually RW, English Premier League doesn't start till Aug 15. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted July 8, 2010 Super User Posted July 8, 2010 Geez... Does this ever end? Real football starts in a couple of weeks. Thank God! : You be quiet! I love American Football as much as any other guy here in the states, but the World Cup happens once every four years. So, shaddap Quote

A lot of people who don't normally watch soccer are finally watching, and FIFA wants a good first impression. The best part about the whole ball issue is this. The Bundesliga used it for the entire season. Not one player that has played in the Bundesliga complained about the ball. Lots of them have enjoyed using it, etc etc. I think it's more of a fact that Addidas didn't test the ball in the altitude that it would be primarily used in. I've got one of the official match balls here at the house. It's a joy to use. Lots of travel, accurate, etc etc. A little more thorough testing was probably needed. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted July 8, 2010 Super User Posted July 8, 2010 The goal Brockenhorst (sp?) scored for the Dutch yesterday from what?....40+ yards out...that was an absolute laser to the top right corner. It's apparent that he's got a good handle on the new Adidas ball. That was an amazing shot. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted July 8, 2010 Super User Posted July 8, 2010 It ranks right down there with the Tour de France. What is it, a two week bicycle race? Nothing against those who participate or enjoy those two sports. I gave up on professional sports and their pampered, privileged owners and players whining about how tough they have it years ago. I'd rather watch golf or tennis. Individual sports where, aside from endorsements, and appearance fees, the players get paid according to how well they play in a given tournament. One thing that puzzles me is the retirement of Lorena Ochoa who retired at the peak of her game. More power to her. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted July 8, 2010 Super User Posted July 8, 2010 roadwarrior, seriously? Shouldn't you be counting your Fat Ika's or something? The World Cup happens once every 4 years and a few of us want to talk about it....big deal. I'm actually a little puzzled by the soccer haters clicking on a thread that says Any World Cup fans??? :-? Two reedonkulous strikes of the ball. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted July 8, 2010 BassResource.com Administrator Posted July 8, 2010 I for one am definitely NOT a soccer fan, which is why I haven't even clicked on this thread until now. And why I've stayed out of it. I suggest others who have no interest in this topic steer clear of it as well. Quote
