NewAngler Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 No. I wish all soccer was pay per veiw. I wish your comments on this thread were pay per view. Nice. Victory. Quote
brushhoggin Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 No. I wish all soccer was pay per veiw. "I" before "E" except after "C" And Drogba dislocated his elbow, you'd think he'd be good to go after a couple weeks. "Later Friday, L'Equipe reported that Drogba had retracted his remarks. He had a dislocated elbow, not a fractured arm, the paper reported, and planned to have emergency surgery that might allow him to play in the Ivory Coast opener against Portugal. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted June 7, 2010 Super User Posted June 7, 2010 I caught something on the ticker on ESPN that said he's not ruled out. Definitely good news for the sport. Quote
brushhoggin Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 And forget about the US. I love my country but we're so behind in the mental and physical evolution of this sport. just imagine US vs. england or germany's starting line up... :-/ :-[ well i stand corrected Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted June 12, 2010 Super User Posted June 12, 2010 Green's muffed goal was a gift. But I'll take it. Great game. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted June 12, 2010 Super User Posted June 12, 2010 They may hang that goalie when he gets back to England....that was a terrible goal to give up. Did anyone notice the buzzing noise throughout the whole game? Sounded like a cloud of killer bees was hovering over the stadium....I finally had to mute the TV. I watch the World Cup as I do anything competitive and enjoy it for the most part but I had no idea these soccer analysts would have so much to "analyze". It's almost comical. Go USA! (Dutch team wins it all if I had to lay money on it) Quote
Super User Dan: Posted June 12, 2010 Super User Posted June 12, 2010 the buzzing noise was those stupid horns that the fans use. The only thing I hate more about soccer than those horns is how the players act hurt all the time. Quote
Captain Obvious Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 Gentlemen may I introduce you to the origin of that buzzing nose. It is called a vuvuzelas which translated into American means, A loud and !!@%#& annoying horn meant to be blown to keep Americans away from soccer. Notice that it only stands for this in American and has a different meaning in English or any other soccer loving country. And I have learned also that the only people who have better wind that soccer players are soccer fans, who don't ever stop blowing the vuvuzelas even during half time. Capt.O Quote
torsten329 Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 I'm going for the USA of course. Got a lucky point yesterday... Thank you England. As for who will win it I'm leaning toward Argentina or Germany. Messi missed a ton of chances yesterday. Props to the Nigerian keeper for making some insane saves though. As for the US, I think if we can get some offensive chances and finish them we could go relatively far into the tourney. Tim Howard played insane yesterday and he always does in big games. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted June 14, 2010 Super User Posted June 14, 2010 Good lord Germany looked good today. Mind you, they were playing Australia and the "fearsome" Socceroos. If they keep playing like that, Klose just may top Ronaldo for all time World cup goals. He's sitting on 11 now. Argentina's got a good team, I just think Maradona might be the downfall for them. Messi looked ridiculous like always. Nobody else so far has shown much promise. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted June 14, 2010 Super User Posted June 14, 2010 Just read this on Yahoo about those stupid horns. http://g.sports.yahoo.com/soccer/world-cup/blog/dirty-tackle/post/Vuvuzelas-might-yet-be-banned-from-World-Cup?urn=sow,247947 Quote
Super User Dan: Posted June 14, 2010 Super User Posted June 14, 2010 Yeah, I've been seeing lots of articles that say most people are fed up with them. Quote

Lucky Craft Man Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I am not a soccer fan, but I love the World Cup. There is something about a competition the really captures the attention of every country in the world (except for the U.S. of course). As far as teams I would like to see win, U.S. is obviously at the top of my list. I have a bother-in-law from Mexico, another brother-in-law from Greece, and parent-in-laws from Italy, so any of these countries winning would be nice (though, all three of these countries didn't start off too well). I really enjoyed watching Germany, but I don't know if they are really good or if Australia sucks that bad. It will be interesting to say the least to see who comes out of each group. Also, I am going to order one of those vuvuzela's in either black or gold. If you ever make it to a Steelers game and you hear one of those horns blowing, you know who it will be. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted June 14, 2010 Super User Posted June 14, 2010 Germany is that good. One of the favorites to win it all. Quote
soccplayer07 Posted June 15, 2010 Author Posted June 15, 2010 I agree they are very good. One of my favorites despite their injuries but I don't think think they were picked to go very far this tourney. Not sure why but I rarely heard anything positive about them leading up to the cup. Quote
dave Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 I am not really a soccer fan but was trying to watch some on Sunday. Couldn't because of the d**n droning sound. I found out on the news yesterday what it was. Interesting that with all of the complaints coming from viewers, that FIFA is still not going to ban them from the stadiums. Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 What happened to Spain against the Swiss? That has to be a shocker there. Quote
soccplayer07 Posted June 16, 2010 Author Posted June 16, 2010 the first round needed a shocker and boy did we get it. Number 1 team just got humbled. I feel bad for Honduras...their next opponent Quote
Super User Tin Posted June 16, 2010 Super User Posted June 16, 2010 I just want to see Ronaldo get shut down. ;D Go Germany! Quote
1inStripes Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 The Swiss packed their D in tight in the box and made Spain work from the outside and their goalie had a great game. Spain only threatened with 2 deep shots. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted June 17, 2010 Super User Posted June 17, 2010 Unfortunately, I had to work during the game today. I checked the score on my phone and about had to change my shorts. Couldn't believe it. Just got done watching the replay on ESPN and I've gotta say, the Swiss just showed the world how to beat Spain. They did basically the same thing the US did during last years Confederations Cup. Pack the box with people and shut down a really potent offense. Having a goalie thats up to par helps a ton as well. Definitely did not see that one coming. Congrats to the Swiss. Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 Wow...first Spain, now France. Though, I have a feeling the French losing to Mexico isn't as much of an upset as Spain losing to the Swiss. Either way, it is good to see the French lose (I'm sure they are going to blame it on the ball or the vuvuzelas again). Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted June 18, 2010 Super User Posted June 18, 2010 France losing really wasn't a surprise to me. I think Mexico has a far superior "team." France has a bunch of spectacularly talented individuals and a manager who's clueless. I really wish I could see the logic behind him taking out Anelka who played fairly anemic today, and replacing him with some dude that most of the world has never heard of. What was the point of bringing Henry in if he's not going to play? I'm not a France fan, but I would love to see Anelka and Henry playing up front with Ribery feeding them. It's really sad to see so many great players being forced to do what Domenech thinks is best. Good thing he's out after the World Cup. Mexico on the other hand looked great. Dos Santos was in great form like he normally is. That is one dangerous little dude. Aguirre has really brought that team together. I wouldn't be overly surprised to see them make it past the round of 16. The real question is going to be what the French are going to throw at the team when they arrive back in France after getting booted from the Cup. I'll be bold enough to say that they'll finally score a goal, but still end up with a draw when they play South Africa. Either that, or Tshabalala wins it at the end of the match with another rocket from distance. Quote
1inStripes Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 I didn't have France getting out of round robin play and today made me feel even better about that. They shouldn't even be in the World Cup this year. Quote
