soccplayer07 Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Any cup fans? Who are you routing for? Who do you think will take it down? Any key games you are looking forward to? routing for the U.S./ I think Spain and Brazil will be extremely dangerous with Germany being somewhat of a sleeper/ England v USA, Brazil v Portugal, Mexico v France, Brazil v Ivory Coast Quote
bigfruits Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 The best soccer team in the world has not won a world cup yet. Viva España! Quote

Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted June 4, 2010 Super User Posted June 4, 2010 One week to go! I can't wait for it to finally get here. Obviously I want the US to win. After the run they made at the Confederations Cup, I'd say they've got a decent chance. They should move out of their group fairly easily, but you never know. Who do I "think" will win? Brazil, Spain, Italy, Netherlands. Germany could be an interesting team to watch as well. Argentina has a shot, but the crappy coaching of Maradona will cost them a win in the end. Portugal will struggle, even with great players like Ronaldo and Nani. I'd love to see France play good, but after how much they struggled to qualify who knows. Thats another loaded team with really poor coaching. Mexico may be the sleeper team of the tournament. They have a very well rounded team, and Javier Aguirre has done a great job with them. All in all it should be a very, very entertaining month. If I were a betting man, I'd expect to see the "big" teams make it through the first and second rounds. Don't look for any Cinderella stories to happen. Quote

I didn't like how they played in the friendly play two weeks ago. Who knows, maybe Donovan will GREAT and the defense stout. I hope so. Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 4, 2010 Super User Posted June 4, 2010 Soccerplayer, funny you should ask. The World Cup is the only soccer I will watch as those guys are fantastic. I will not watch a soccer match nor attend a game but I will tune in to the World Cup matches and the final. Greatest soccer in the world. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted June 4, 2010 Super User Posted June 4, 2010 You need to watch some EPL matches next season, Sam. That truly is the best soccer. Yes, the World Cup is great, it's really something special. But the Premiership is leaps and bounds beyond what the Cup is as far as competition goes. There are teams in the world cup that will be lucky to get a single point. In the EPL though, you really never know what the heck is going to happen. Quote

I didn't like how they played in the friendly play two weeks ago. Who knows, maybe Donovan will GREAT and the defense stout. I hope so. Well, in defense of the US team, they didn't field a strong team in that game. Bradley was still working around and playing with his starting 11. Yes, if they won the whole thing it would be a Cinderella story. The defense is very suspect. If Onyewu gets beyond the fear of re-injuring himself, they should be much stronger defensively. Right now he's a liability. Loosing Charlie Davies was a huge hit as well. I think players like Altidore and Dempsey will be able to step up though. Edson Buddle is playing great this year, but thats only the MLS. Herculez Gomez really could be fun to watch, he's having a great start to his season with Pachuca. Tim Howard is never an issue. That guy is a great Keeper. I think the US' major concern will be the questions at defense along with the play of the forwards. Time will tell. The opener against England will be a big test for them. If they come out on top from that match, they could well ride a big emotional high into the second round and beyond depending on who advances. Quote
Skunked in DR Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 This is my absolutely favourite month of sports. Nothing can touch the World Cup for excitement and drama. Spain have to be favourites. Think Brazil will go far despite being a bit of a boring team. Would love to see the Dutch do well. Not expecting Italy or France to get out of the groups. Agentina could be amazing but Maradona's lack of coaching ability will see them go out in the quarters. Can't wait!! Quote

Always been a fan of total football, these guys are artists. But in all honesty, Spain and Germany will be the big wigs this time. Still can't believe Russia didn't make it. Quote
brushhoggin Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 And forget about the US. I love my country but we're so behind in the mental and physical evolution of this sport. just imagine US vs. england or germany's starting line up...no chance Quote

Along with teams like Man U, Tottenham, etc etc... Quote
Oscar O. Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Definitely rooting for the Red White and Blue! I just hope they do well, pretty confident they wont win it :. I'm not gonna make a prediction but, EA's FIFA World Cup 2010 video game predicts Spain to beat Brazil in the final 3-1. Quote
1inStripes Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 I have gotten into soccer in recent years. I am still learning the sport and enjoy the international games more than EPL and such, but the EPL is easier to watch than MLS. Quote
soccplayer07 Posted June 5, 2010 Author Posted June 5, 2010 USA looked pretty solid today vs Australia. final score was 3 to 1. most importantly no injuries. did you guys hear that Drogba broke his arm??? Also Ferdinand (England captain) is out! Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted June 5, 2010 Super User Posted June 5, 2010 Ouch. I heard Drogba hurt his arm. I didn't know he broke it though. Thats just horrible for the sport. Ferdinand hurt his knee again. I haven't heard how bad it was though. I really hope both of them are able to play. I caught on ESPN that Altidore was hurt also. What the heck is going on in the friendlies. I understand playing hard, but man, the World Cup is less than a week away... Quote
soccplayer07 Posted June 6, 2010 Author Posted June 6, 2010 ferdinand has already been ruled out. i hate to say it but that is a break for the US (never want to see anyone hurt though!). Quote
b.Lee Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Go South Korea and Spain! I wouldn't mind if Argentina went also. Quote

Definitely don't want to see anybody hurt, but I'll agree that it does favor the US. FIFA may need to rethink some of these friendlies this close to the Cup starting. If they really want to get more of the US audience, they need to make sure the superstars aren't getting hurt. I realize Ferdinand was hurt in training, but there are other players getting injured as well. Quote
soccplayer07 Posted June 7, 2010 Author Posted June 7, 2010 I agree but it's a very tough situation too. you want your guys to get time playing together but this close to kick off is way to risky...in my opinion Quote
