Simp Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Well I just spent a arm and a leg and got a iPad. In fact I'm using it right now to type this. That's probably what I'm most impressed with. The typing works fantastic and I could not be happier in that respect. I've been wanting something highly portable and light weight but still having a ton of features. I was at first looking at getting a high end net book with a HD screen but the more I looked it seemed the iPad could offer everything I wanted but frankly at a price. For the longest time I couldn't see myself paying 5-700$ on something that didn't even have DVD or blu Ray. Then I thought about the fact that I hate the DVD drive on my older laptop. The thing eats up a ton of battery and always pops open and I never use it. All the video I watch is streaming on the web now. So net books and iPad overcame that hurdle. What was causing me to lean toward a net book over iPad though was price and flash. The ipad doesn't support flash and frankly that's just dumb! Steve jobs can say whatever he likes but it was all about ego and control IMHO. The iPad was also almost double of the net books in price so why did I get it? Well to start off I found out all the sites I wanted had a free video app and then hulu announced their new app. So I can get all the video content I want and don'need a huge hard drive. Btw the abc video player offers amazing HD for streaming video. Netflix is also amazing as well. This thing is multimedia machine! Second is the form and weight factor. I wanted to be able to take this device to work or anywhere and it not weigh me down. My laptop is just to big and heavy. Sure it has a great big screen but the boot ups take 4ever and it wasn't a very portable device. I played with some net books and was surprised by the weight of them. It kind of turned me off on them. The battery life is also awesome on the iPad. Something like 10 hours! All the apps are also amazing. I even set up a remote desktop to run my pc from my iPad. All the iBooks and ebook readers are also pretty amazing. I can see myself starting to use that. I also bet the newspapers love this thing. It seems like the iPad was made to save the newspaper industry. There are a ton of other things I love about this thing but i've went along long enough. I just hope hummingbird comes out with a side image app next! ;D ;D ;D Quote
VolFan Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Can you wipe the screen with a damp towlette? You're slobbering all over it! Quote
NateFollmer Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 I'm holding out for an android tablet pc. I have a personal grudge with apple because they wouldn't let our store sell the iphone (I bet we lost hundreds of thousands of dollars over that!). The ipad does look awesome though! Too bad myoutdoortv.com doesn't work that would make it perfect haha. Quote

I'm not going to get into details here I forgot to ask, did you get the one that has the AT&T aircard built in? Quote

I'm not going to get into details here I forgot to ask, did you get the one that has the AT&T aircard built in? No I'm with verizon, and ATT doesn't have the best coverage around here. I just got the one with wifi built in. I have wifi at my house and at work. In fact were I work you can't get normal cell phone reception. The hospital I work at has bulkier phones for us to use because parts of the hospital has very thick walls. On the other they have set up a superb wifi in the entire hospital though. So wifi gets the job done great for me. The AT&T data plan also kind of sucks imho. I hope they change it, but my contract is up in a few months so it's possible I could switch and get a iphone and tether it. However I'll probably just get some type of android phone. Quote
NateFollmer Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Stay with Verizon! Haha Wait for the droid x or droid 2. I currently have the droid and love it. Once the 2.2 update comes out, you'll be able to tether and create a mobile hotspot with your phone (it will create a wifi signal and 5 devices can connect to your phone and use internet). You'll also get flash (a guy I work with has the Nexus One and it got 2.2 a few days ago, the flash works flawlessly). Quote

NateFollmer Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Quote I dont see what it can do that my laptop cant. Not overly impressed with it yet... I saw a video of guys that mounted skateboard wheels to it and used it for a skateboard... They actually had a very hard time breaking the thing! (besides the glass) I want to see any laptop (besides a Panasonic tough book) do that! Pointless I know.... If you have a laptop, I don't think they are targeting you with this device. It's more like people who need a laptop or some other mobile device, this is a quick and easy solution for them. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted July 5, 2010 Super User Posted July 5, 2010 I dont see what it can do that my laptop cant. Not overly impressed with it yet... Exactly. It is a typical Apple product. And that's all I'll say about that. Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted July 5, 2010 Super User Posted July 5, 2010 I love my Macbook Pro. I'll never go back to Windows. But that being said, I'm really not that impressed with the ipad either. I hate touch screens with a passion. Quote
