Super User 5bass Posted June 23, 2010 Super User Posted June 23, 2010 Thank goodness for stoppage time!!! Congratulations to Team USA on the victory today against Algeria and winning their group to advance to the next round despite being screwed on yet another clean goal early in the game. Quote
Super User Marty Posted June 23, 2010 Super User Posted June 23, 2010 I'm not a soccer fan, but I caught the last few minutes and that ranks right up there as one of the most dramatic finishes I've seen in any sport. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted June 23, 2010 Author Super User Posted June 23, 2010 I watched the whole game and had pretty much accepted the impending 0-0 tie....then when Donovan buried it in the back of the net I came out of my seat cheering! It was dramatic to say the least. Algeria played well too and that was probably the best WC game I've watched so far. Both teams were playing TO WIN instead of playing conservative and just trying not to lose. Lots of offensive action, several shots off posts and crossbars....good stuff. Big win for the US. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted June 24, 2010 Super User Posted June 24, 2010 I'm not soccer fan either, but I've been watching U.S. in World Cup because I got nothing better to do and my gosh that was pretty intense! I don't understand the off-side rules that disallowed two of our goals in last two games. I was jumping out of my seats at all of those shots bouncing off the posts and barely missing the goals, etc. Goodness gracious... Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted June 24, 2010 Super User Posted June 24, 2010 I've not been watching the coverage but soccer games are usually intense. Offsides is kinda a weird rule, if a team is in possession of the ball, then an offensive player without the ball that is between the last defender and the goalie is considered offsides and cannot contact the ball until repositioned in front of the last defender. frogtog Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Why is there always a humming noise in the back ground? Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted June 24, 2010 Super User Posted June 24, 2010 Why is there always a humming noise in the back ground? Vuvuzelas, obnoxious horns blown by soccer fans for reasons that defy understanding. Quote
tyrius. Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 The call in the last game that disallowed the winning goal was a foul and not offsides. Quote

One of the best matches I've seen in a long time, period. World Cup, League, pick up games, etc etc. Spectacular action throughout. The Algerian keeper played simply amazing. If it weren't for him, the US would have put at least another two or three in the net. Scoring in the 91st minute was just....FREAKIN EPIC!!!1111 You just gotta love the drama of the World Cup. It don't get much better. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted June 24, 2010 Super User Posted June 24, 2010 I was guiding today and miss the whole game but I'm watching the replay right now. I've been playing soccer since I was a kid and it's a great game but Algeria plays dirty. I can't believe the number of flagrant fouls. There should have been four red cards given in this game. Quote
okiefisher8 Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 I'm not a huge soccer fan but caught the last 30 minutes or so of the game. I went absolutely crazy when donovan score that goal Quote
Super User Root beer Posted June 24, 2010 Super User Posted June 24, 2010 The call in the last game that disallowed the winning goal was a foul and not offsides. The commentator was talking during the game that called was off-side and claimed there was no off-side. No cards or fouls was giving out after the whistle blew. I was totally confused. Lol. All I saw was replay of Slovenia players hugging the U.S. players. Oh well at least we are in round of 16 so who cares. ;D Quote

There are lots of fouls called throughout a game that are not yellow cards. Quote
Super User Raul Posted June 24, 2010 Super User Posted June 24, 2010 Why is there always a humming noise in the back ground? My family has a stadium box for the local stadium, I 'm not much of a soccer fan but I ocassionaly go to see the local team ( Leon ) play, man if you find that sound annoying while watching an aired game you should experience it in the flesh ..... and to make it even worse, my home is located not far from the stadium and one of the streets from where the traffic from the stadium flows after the game passes right next to my house, so not only I "enjoy" vuvuzela sound at the stadium when I go but also when I don 't go > , vuvuzela, horns, screams, flags, win or loose the local club it don 't matter. I went down to Azteca for the last Mexico/US match. The vuvuzelas aint got nothing on crazy drunken Mexican fans. Those dudes are flippin ridiculous. Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 I bet everyone in Brazil is smiling with the bracket their team has landed in. It is almost like getting a bye to the Finals (though, I would love to see the US have something to say about that) Quote
brushhoggin Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 agreed. i really don't wanna see brazil win it. There are some really good matches this weekend. Ghana is going to be a tough one for us. england v germany will be a cracker. Quote
