b.Lee Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 I hurt my ankle years ago, and it is now starting to catch up with me. I want a ankle brace which I can still run and be active in. Thanks In Advance - Brandon Quote
okiefisher8 Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 I wore them when I played football in highschool. I think mueller was the brand, you can pick them up at most sporting good stores and they did great for me Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 30, 2010 Super User Posted June 30, 2010 Some pharmacies have special departments for various medical devices and garments. We have one in Bon Air, Virginia, and they are very helpful. Try to locate a pharmacy that has this type of department. It will probably be a locally owend shop as the big chains do not offer this service. Quote
CFFF 1.5 Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 I wear an ankle brace on my left ankle when I play basketball. Here is the link to the one I have. http://www.futuro-usa.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Futuro/Global/Products/Catalog/?PC_7_RJH9U5230GN080ICTTIVBG2092_nid=DX9SXPNDM7gs9L47L9CFM1glZG34JC9LPFbl It has good lateral support and is fairly comfortable to wear although you will need to wear socks that are high enough to cover the brace. b.Lee Posted June 30, 2010 Author Posted June 30, 2010 Thanks guys for the suggestions, I will def.check out the pharmacy. Man they have like 90 -150 dollars braces out there. That futuro one looks nice and comfy. I like the design of it also. Quote
NateFollmer Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Geez man up and use popsicle sticks and some duct tape! Ha jk, anyway, what is the extent of the old injury? You may just be able to get away with a nice tight wrap and those little brace things you can wrap in them? I do that with my wrist sometimes (broke it snowboarding like 8 years ago and it still bothers me) I realize your ankle will be taking a lot more stress than a wrist will though... Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted July 1, 2010 Super User Posted July 1, 2010 I use to play basketball, when I tore most of the tenons and ligaments, the doctor would put my ankle in a air cast, I was able to play with it on, well, once the pain went away.. ;D Not sure if they are still available, but they work great..I was able to add air as needed so my ankle wouldn't twist or turn. Red Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 I was a hardcore skater for many many years. I have seen my share or sprained and jacked up ankles, both still "click" today. I wore those lace up braces on both ankles. I don't recall them being very expensive and they were great. I would recommend them. Quote
b.Lee Posted July 1, 2010 Author Posted July 1, 2010 My injury consisted of sledding accident. I fell off and well my foot contacted first and then the rest of my body went over my ankle. I didn't break anything. But I have been running lately, and it is acting up. I started wrapping it but I don't think it was enough. I went with the Futuro one suggested above, but the smaller one. Seems to be working pretty well. I looked at those McDavid Lace up ones, they are like 30 dollars + Quote
