Super User Micro Posted June 29, 2010 Super User Posted June 29, 2010 Got to check out Remington's new 1911R1 .45 pistol. Wow, this is a really nice 1911-type pistol. Typical 1911 pistol with a deep matte blue finish. Trigger is super crisp. Nice stainless barrel and bushing. Short aluminum trigger. The front site is dovetailed on - which ought to be law with any 1911. The sites are nice and high with a wide notch in the rear. 2 magazines. Green hard plastic case. All in all, a great feeling gun. The best part is the price - under $600. The gun is also 100% made in the USA. I think the pistol will be great as-is, or the basis for a nice custom job. Looking forward to adding this one to my arsenal. http://www.1911r1.com/Products/Firearms/Model-1911r1.aspx Quote
Super User burleytog Posted June 29, 2010 Super User Posted June 29, 2010 That may be my first 1911. Quote
mrclean77 Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 Hmm Must investigate this further - a made in the USA 1911 for under $600, color me skeptical, yet still interested Quote
Super User Micro Posted June 29, 2010 Author Super User Posted June 29, 2010 Yes, I was skeptical, too. I figured it might be another re-branded Armscor (made in Philippines). But it's the real deal. Manufacturing is 100% in Ilion, New York. There has been a lot of buzz on gun boards since Remington announced the gun. Now that it has made it into the hands of some buyers, reviews have been excellent. The only negative comments I've seen are simply preference-issues (ie: prefer a black trigger to silver, etc). The gun I inspected felt great. The inside of the slide was nicley machined. I didn't see any machining marks anywhere. The trigger was great. Not quite in the Colt league, but neither is the price. The finish is matte blue, with bead blasted top. I suspect this is a going to be a very popular 1911 type pistol. The price is exceptional given what I've seen. And given Remington's size, I'm not surprised they could pull off a quality pistol at a reasonable price. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted June 30, 2010 Super User Posted June 30, 2010 Good lookin handgun. I really miss my Old Colt's from the early 80's..My old gold Cup cost me 350.00 plus a few hundered to have it worked over.. Compared to other goods, the price is very reasonable..assuming it shoots well.. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted June 30, 2010 Super User Posted June 30, 2010 I'll have to keep an eye out for it. Any idea on a widespread release date? Micro, on a side note: What do you think of the Springfield 1911 models? Quote
Super User Micro Posted June 30, 2010 Author Super User Posted June 30, 2010 The Remington has already been released and is in stores. Springfields are fantastic guns. Nothing wrong with them at all. I've owned two and they were both top notch. Quote
SGT Rico Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Love 1911's!!!!!!!! The field verdict on this piece is still not out, but if it performs the way I've read on it, its going to be a knockout of pistol!! Quote
