Super User roadwarrior Posted June 10, 2010 Super User Posted June 10, 2010 The conference is gone. Colorado just made their "official announcement" on the Pac 10 website: http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5gtO5qv3qZJtaafB3TQhsDBi-jHcwD9G8K4T82 :'( Quote

bowfish12 Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 What I hate is that those dang Sooner s are going to a different conference than Texas I hate that the rivalry's had to break up :'( OU will end up in the Pac-10 with Texas, along with Texas Tech, Ok St, and A&M. Good chance the remaining teams from the Big 12 will eventually be picked up by the Mountain West. Quote

Super User Sam Posted June 11, 2010 Super User Posted June 11, 2010 Expected Nebraska and Missouri to go to the Big 10 and Colorado to follow them. Seems Colorado told Texas to shove it as will Nebraska and Missouri later this week or month. Texas A&M will follow Texas. Texas will offer Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Baylor to the PAC 10. Big question is Notre Dame. If the Fighting Irish go to the Big 10 then no other additions should be forthcoming from the Big 10. If Notre Dame decides to remain independent the Big 10 could go after a number of schools. SEC should stay the same unless the SEC decides they need to add two or four teams to get more TV exposure. Florida State would be a good SEC addition but why play 8 tough games when FSU can stay in the ACC and play only one or two good teams a year. Clepson, Georgia Tech, UVA, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, NC State and Duke don't bring anything to the SEC. Stay tuned. Things will get very interesting very fast now that Colorado has made the first move. Quote

Seems Colorado told Texas to shove it as will Nebraska and Missouri later this week or month. Texas A&M will follow Texas. Texas will offer Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Baylor to the PAC 10. Texas can't offer a thing. And there's no way Baylor is going to the Pac 10. For one thing, If the Big 12 South went west, only five teams could make the move since Colorado has formally accepted an offer to join the Pac 10. Second, unlike in 94 when the Big 12 was formed, the TX government appears to be content to let their state universities fend for themselves. As it always is at times like this, rumors are rampant. One report (posted above by Stripes) indicates that OU is pushing to join the SEC if they can find another team to come in with them. Also rumored that Texas A&M has already been extended an invitation by the SEC. Bottom line is that nothing is definite (other than Colorado moving to the Pac 10). Big question is Notre Dame. If the Fighting Irish go to the Big 10 then no other additions should be forthcoming from the Big 10. If Notre Dame decides to remain independent the Big 10 could go after a number of schools. Florida State would be a good SEC addition but why play 8 tough games when FSU can stay in the ACC and play only one or two good teams a year. FSU rejected the SEC in 1991. Adding them doesn't help the SEC one iota. The SEC already has Florida locked down. If any Florida school should come into the discussion, it should probably be USF. Clepson, Georgia Tech, UVA, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, NC State and Duke don't bring anything to the SEC. VPI would give the SEC an in-roads towards the DC/NOVA market. Although I don't care for VPI, inviting them to the SEC would be a good idea. The other ACC schools have potential (UNC would bring the Raleigh and Durham markets, not too shabby). The North Carolina schools will never split up. VPI is the most logical choice from the ACC Stay tuned. Things will get very interesting very fast now that Colorado has made the first move. Wow, where to begin... Quote
tnbassfisher Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 As long as the SEC stays the same, I'm find. Really though, they could drop Vanderbilt. That school has too much brains to be in the SEC. Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 11, 2010 Super User Posted June 11, 2010 Tennessee Basser, Vandy and Florida are the only two ADA schools in the SEC and neither is leaving. ADA is the program regarding graduation rates and grade point averages for athletes. Burley, good feedback. Please understand that the ther Big 12 schools are fed up with Texas getting more money then they get. Texas will bring A&M along with Texas Tech, OU and Okie State. Baylor is not attractive but the Texas politicians may protect the little private school and tell UT they have to tag along to wherever Texas ends up. Nebraska and Missouri are gone. Shoe could fall with Nebraska today. Missouri is set to leave the Big 12 and head to the Big 10 at any time. Mizzou is still upset that the league allowed Kansas to play in Orange Bowl when Mizzou beat Kansas that year plus the monetary situation has them ticked off with Texas getting the biggest share of the pot. Yes, VaTech would be attractive to the SEc but I don't' think Beemer is dumb enough to join the SEC when he can beat the ACC patsies like a drum all season. Bowden was smart when he turned down the SEC and went to the ACC. Soon the Seminoles will be back with Dumbo Fisher at the helm and will be in the mix for the BCS championships. Basketball is not included in this formula. Only football. Kansas, K-State and Iowa State could go to the Mountain West. As I said, stay tuned. This is going to be fun! Quote
1inStripes Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 The Texas legislature doesn't seem to be getting involved this time around like they did when the Little 12 were formed. RC Slocum has already came out and said that they have no ties to Texas or any other influeces other than money. They will go to whoever provides them the most money to be made. Quote

Super User Root beer Posted June 11, 2010 Super User Posted June 11, 2010 I don't know what to think of this. Breaking up conferences to form 4 major super conference. I think 12 teams should be the max per conference... Quote

Perhaps I'm in the dark, but what does R.C. Slocum have to do with A&M? He hasn't coached them for over 7-8 years now. Quote
1inStripes Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 After spending 30 of the last 31 years serving Texas A&M, Slocum was not quite ready to leave. He is currently a special advisor to the president of Texas A&M University and works for the Texas A&M Foundation. In 2006, Slocum was inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. Presently, he also serves as President of the American Football Coaches Foundation. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted June 11, 2010 Super User Posted June 11, 2010 At 6-0 & 4 in a row the BCS champion still goes through the SEC X2 Now the Big 12 can go RIP in the PAC what ever the hell they care to call it. Quote
bmadd Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 While this is all based on money, we as fans should accept this. If there are 4 major conferences remaining, all of these "top" teams will be beating up on each other throughout the year. It will make for many more interesting games. I also do not see how the NCAA will be able to avoid the playoffs if all of these teams settle into these major conferences. Quote

Super User Matt Fly Posted June 15, 2010 Super User Posted June 15, 2010 We as in the Big XII aren't done yet either. Maybe not this year, but in the near future, look to have Arizona and ASU in the Big XII. Big XII has the rights to the Fiesta Bowl in Arizona. We gain two major TV networks, Stoops brothers rivalary makes for an interesting topic, baseball, softball, basketball, womens and mens get deeper if they joined in the future. Losing Neb hurt in football and womens volleyball, and a mere 700,000 households in Neb, not much in viewers, CU in the Denver area was the 16th largest viewing area in the US, but with ASU and U of A, we come out better all around. Say what you will about teams moving, they have and do, just not everyday. Look at the big east and ACC, lots of shifting done in recent years. It hasn't been 20 years since the Big XII came about. To say that Arkansas and LSU wouldn't be a possibility isn't a stretch either if money truly does drive the bus. Lots of options on the table for the big XII. Live or die, Hookem Horns! Quote
