brgbassmaster Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Well guys im headed to Guam for the next 3 yrs. Guess im going to have to retire bass fishing and start ocean fishing which by the way i never have done. I am going to be working at Andersen AFB in the 554th RED HORSE squadron. If anyone hase ever been stationed in guam and has any fishing tips let me know. Quote
b.Lee Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 It really isn't so bad there. I am sure there has to be a few ponds there Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted June 7, 2010 Super User Posted June 7, 2010 Don't know about Guam, but good luck over there. You got any summer left in the states or are you having to leave pretty soon? Quote
Super User Dan: Posted June 7, 2010 Super User Posted June 7, 2010 What's the word on serving in Guam? Is that a good assignment? Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted June 7, 2010 Super User Posted June 7, 2010 is this a peace time tour? seams like a long time to be stationed out of the states. good luck. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted June 7, 2010 Super User Posted June 7, 2010 Plenty of people are stationed outside of the states for several years, Skunked_again. Thats nothing out of the ordinary. The only place that I've been to that had restrictions was Korea. You spend one year there because it's whats called a "hardship" tour. No bringing family, etc etc. I'd imagine that if he's got orders for three years at Guam that it's not a hardship assignment. Never been to Guam myself. Supposed to be some beautiful beaches there though. Gotta be some good opportunities for some surf fishing out there. Quote
brgbassmaster Posted June 9, 2010 Author Posted June 9, 2010 Ya guys i hear its one of the best assignments ill ever do. but its a 3 yr tour and ill still be deployable to go overseas and all that. actually the unit i will be stationed in is a heavy deployable unit. The RED HORSE squadron (RED HORSE Rapid Engineers Deployable Heavy Operations Repair Squadron Engineers) Pretty much does anything with construction overseas and stateside. Shouldnt be to bad chillin on the beaches and catching fish everyday. better change of pace from new mexico. Quote
YNCBASSMAN Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 I'm in the Navy and I know alot of people that have been stationed there and are stationed there now. I've only heard one horror story, the rest say they've had a blast there. But then again, us Navy guys get to go to sea and go from port to port. Just watch out for the another siteMROR. Quote
wagn Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Good luck, stay safe, and have fun! Thanks for your service Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted June 10, 2010 Super User Posted June 10, 2010 Good luck, and thanks so much for all that you do! Quote
Kimbro Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 I'm familiar with another siteM but what's the ROR mean? Maybe it's best discussed over a pm? Guam is a good assignment, 3 years on a small island will get to you so take advantage of the ITT tours to get off the island. I spent 5 years on Okinawa, the worst part was I assumed there was no bass fishing which there was. I'll check on bass fishing info with a close Chamoro compadre. Quote
wagn Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 I'm familiar with another siteM but what's the ROR mean? Maybe it's best discussed over a pm? I couldn't figure it out till I googled it either. Quote
HuntFishAK Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 Congrats on your assignment to Guam. I was stationed there for 15 months before they made it a long tour. I had a blast. If I remember right, there isn't any bass fishing, but there is a lot of salt water fishing. I would also suggest getting SCUBA certified. It's wicked cheap there. If you're into it, the night life in Tumon is awesome. Definitely take a trip to Australia. It's only a 4 hour flight to Cairns and there should be package deals at MWR. Some of the local woman are top notch! Absolutely gorgeous. The beaches are really nice and the water is warm. One of the best beaches on the island is on base. If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me. Hafa adai! Quote
NateFollmer Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 Good luck in Guam and thanks for your service. I rarely fish in the ocean but its an absolute BLAST when I get too. There are so many weird things to catch in salt! Have fun out there and keep the bananas off of any boats! Quote
