wagn Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 I had a sore throat on monday night. Tuesday it turned into fever and chills, and then on wed my wife finally made me go to the doctor. I figured I was just sick, and I would ride it out. But man am I glad that my smarter half sent me to the doctor. Turns out I have Lyme disease from a tick bite. The good news is that because it was caught so early I can just take some antibiotics and be better in 10 days. The bad news is that the medicine I'm on makes me very susceptible to sunburns. My doctor suggested I stay off the water until I'm done with the meds. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted June 10, 2010 Super User Posted June 10, 2010 Lyme disease ain't no joke. Good thing you caught it early. I'd gladly miss a little fishing to avoid Lyme disease. Quote
b.Lee Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Speedy Recovery man. Did you not know you had a tick on you? I thought it hurt when they are on you. Or you feel something? Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted June 10, 2010 Super User Posted June 10, 2010 Speedy Recovery man. Did you not know you had a tick on you? I thought it hurt when they are on you. Or you feel something? usually i feel them as they are crawling on me before they bite. nothing ever hurts though, occasionally one will be itching while its still in but usually the bite doesn't itch till you take the tick off. its not unusual for them to go unnoticed though... llPa1nll Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Speedy recovery, Wagn. Lyme disease is serious stuff. Good thing you caught it early. Heal up and we can get on on my boat soon. BTW... Deer Ticks are the main carrier of Lyme Disease, these tick are much smaller than the average ticks you find on yourself or your pet. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted June 10, 2010 Super User Posted June 10, 2010 Glad you caught it in time . You should treat your wife with something special , her insistence probably saved you a lot of anguish. Quote
wagn Posted June 10, 2010 Author Posted June 10, 2010 Thanks guys. I should be up an running in a few days. I have to stay on the meds for 10 but I should be feeling better by the weekend the doc says. I still never found the tick bite, or tick. The doc said that since we caught it so early, I probably won't even get the "red bulls-eye" shaped rash that people usually find. I guess that doesn't show up for 2-3 weeks after the bite. The doc told me that most people get bit, about a week later they get flu like symptoms for a few days and ignore it, and then feel better. They think it was just a cold, and then about a month later is when all the real bad stuff happens that you hear about with Lyme disease. Like I said before I'm real lucky I caught it, since I was just going to ride it out. I am going to have to do something special for the wife once i'm up off the couch. And Pain we do have to get out on the water. We missed our annual 40 degree freezing rain fishing day this year ;D Quote
D4u2s0t Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Speedy Recovery man. Did you not know you had a tick on you? I thought it hurt when they are on you. Or you feel something? a tick secretes fluids that make it hard to feel the actual bite. If you don't see, or feel the tick crawling on you before it bites, there's a very high chance that you will not know you had a tick. They feed for a while, until they're fully engorged, and they wouldn't stand much of a chance if the bite was noticeable by the host. Best of luck to you, glad you caught it early. Quote
JaxBasser Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Lyme disease is just plain horrible. I'm very paranoid about getting it because i almost always find ticks on me after I go in the woods down here. I always seem to find them before they bite me but I could have been bit and never knew. I actually freaked out once and thought I had it because I had a big red ring on my leg (was just ringworm lol). I remember back in 05 Wyatt Sexton (a QB at FSU) was found doing pushups in the middle of a street, banging on the hoods of peoples cars, and was yelling at people declaring he was god. Everyone thought he was on drugs or just crazy but it turned out that it was because he had lyme disease that had went untreated. Quote
