Super User Micro Posted June 2, 2010 Super User Posted June 2, 2010 I've always wanted a nice, high end air gun for plinking in my yard. Two weeks ago, I bought an Diana RWS Model 34 in .177 caliber. It has a very nicely finished hardwood stock, and steel that is blued as nicely as any firearm I've seen. And this is Diana's low-end gun. It ***** by way of the barrel. It's advertised as having a 1,000 fps muzzle velocity. It's super accurate. Using RWS hollowpoint pellets, I've killed 12 starlings and english sparrows so far, several at 175 feet. Even at that distance the pellet is going right through. If you had fun as a kid with your air rifle, you'll get that feeling back with an adult air gun. I've been having a blast with it. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted June 2, 2010 Super User Posted June 2, 2010 That's funny that you posted this today, Rowland. I just plinked a rat at my birdfeeder this afternoon. After turning him over it seems I got him in the earhole. If I had done it on purpose I'd say it was a pretty good shot! His buddy came out this evening but I missed him. I'll try again tomorrow. Iron sights or do you have a scope? Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted June 2, 2010 Super User Posted June 2, 2010 My uncle is all into air guns these days. He just bought some sort of ultra awesome pre charged pneumatic gun. He is also in the process of saving money to get one of these for big game hunting. http://www.airgunsbbguns.com/Career_Dragon_Slayer_Air_Rifle_50_cal_p/shin-sung-career-dragon-50.htm Thats right all, .50 I want one! Mattlures Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 Hey Biz I wonder how loud it is? does it sound like a regular air gun? does it have a lot of reciol? I didnt even know they made an air rifle that could shoot a big bullet. Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 2, 2010 Super User Posted June 2, 2010 I was going to get one to pop the deer at my house but never did. Micro, we have to go out again. So guys, if I do decide to get an air gun to pop the deer, any suggestions? Quote
Super User Micro Posted June 2, 2010 Author Super User Posted June 2, 2010 I'm using iron sights. The sights are really good on this gun. I might try a scope sometime, but I understand that airguns are very hard on regular scopes and my dealer didn't have any airgun scopes that weren't already part of a gun/scope package. The recoil of this gun is definitely different than a .22 so I can see it would be hard on a scope. Those big-bore airguns are neat. There are some videos on You Tube showing hunters taking rams and wild pigs. Quote
bweave09 Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 I have a Crosman G1 Extreme air rifle and I really like mine. It comes with a decent scope and it is pretty accurate. It's a good choice for under $100. Quote

Insaneley accurate ( like cheez-its @ 30yards) and they seem to stay pretty true. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted June 3, 2010 Super User Posted June 3, 2010 I have one that I mounted a Burris scope on and love it, can split business cards sideways, yes sideways with it at 25 yards. I have it in .22 and it does the trick on squirrels! Quote
I.rar Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 i had an older style break-barrel air rifle that was crazy accurate. not sure what happened to it though. i recently bought and sold a crossman 2240. now THAT was an air pistol. bolt action , c02 powered .22 pistol. they have the same thing in rifle form (2260?). im thinking that will be my next air rifle. they have a crap-ton of aftermarket parts for them too. Strangely, they look, function, and perform like a silencer, but arent. lol Quote
Super User Micro Posted June 5, 2010 Author Super User Posted June 5, 2010 You can have those on an airgun. But they have to be integral with the barrel - i.e. permanently attached and cannot be removed without destroying it. Otherwise, it's a loose silencer and subject to all the laws regarding silencers.
