Super User burleytog Posted July 9, 2008 Super User Posted July 9, 2008 Was in the Sevierville BPS yesterday, they had a tiny section devoted to Megabass. A few Griffons, a few Visions and a few Vib-X. They are certainly proud of them. :-X Quote

Super User Raul Posted July 9, 2008 Super User Posted July 9, 2008 When did BPS start carrying Megabass? About a year ago. Quote
Super User Micro Posted July 9, 2008 Super User Posted July 9, 2008 There's none in my local BPS. In fact, there's a lot of stuff in their catalog that you can't find in their stores. > That's OK, we've got a local guy that has a tackle shop that carries the full line of Megabass. I'd rather spend my $$$ there. Quote
Super User T-rig Posted July 10, 2008 Super User Posted July 10, 2008 I don't fish them. You should, cause they work. Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 I don't fish them I have a some Cyclones, Griffons, and Type X frogs, and I love every single bait. I think the Cyclone is one of the top 3 or 4 crankbaits out there, and wish BPS would carry them, instead of the smaller griffon. I sold all of my 'extraneous' lures on ebay and used the money to start my megabass collection. 6 Cyclones, 3 Griffons, and 7 Type X frogs so far. I'm working up the stones to put some cash down on a 110. These lures are comparable to none. Lucky Craft, in my opinion, can't touch them. Megabass are the 'apex predators' of the lure world. Quote
ThomasL Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 As of today i have 10 sr-x griffons,7 mr-x's and 8 baby griffons, quite a few in japan only colors dating back to 2000.They have a nice wide wobble that reminds me of older storm warts but the detail is second to none,i have slayed plenty of bass on the salmon egg baby of all colors for them to hit, ugly to me but not to the bass! Infidel. Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Not everything Megabass makes is worth the money but the Vision 110, like the one in T-rig's pic, is for sure. To answer the original question, I think is has been two years now. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted July 10, 2008 Super User Posted July 10, 2008 I call those ego boosters. Why? It's similiar to buying a new auto. How do you want to get there ? In elegance (Lexus) or more practical (Ford), They both get the job done. Most people buy what they can afford. Quote
Super User Raul Posted July 10, 2008 Super User Posted July 10, 2008 Not everything Megabass makes is worth the money I don 't agree with that, it is worth the money but not everything Megabass makes is worth spending the money in it for bass fishing. I fell in love with the Griffon the moment I saw it on-line, oh man I drooled over that bait for a couple of years, then finally I got 4 of them, so the package arrived and I opened it in a hurry ( oh well, you guys know what I mean ) and felt dissapointed when I finally saw the bait in the flesh :'(, crap, it 's beatiful, the level of detail is incredible but...... too danged small ! :-[, I was expecting something about the size of a Wiggle Wart size 5 ( 2" ) and this itsy bitsy bait is far from being that size, not only it 's smaller in length but in overall size. I 'm not going to say it doesn 't catch fish, it catches truckloads of them only catch is that it catches truckloads of dinks ( 6-10 inches ). The Margay Stepcat is another bait not for bass fishing, same problem, too small. The Type X ( the frog ) is a really cool looking bait, good size, catches many fish but you get the same results with the Rebel Wee Frog, of course the Wee Frog is a lot cheaper and it 's not as cool looking. I 'm not sure if I will ever spend more money in purchasing a VibX, got a couple and I don 't see much difference in catch ratio compared to other lipless cranks, the only special thing about them is the paint job. The Cyclone, DeepX 100, Deep X 200, Bait X Concept, Pop Max, Flap Slap, Vision 110 and many other baits sure are woth the dough. Quote
Infidel. Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Being that something's worth is subjective I don't disagree with your disagreement. Wait :-? ;D Here are a list (not that anyone asked but hey, why not) of Megabass baits that I own and they catch fish, but I think were not worth the price. Deep X 200T SR-X Cyclone Cyclone MD-X Vision 95 Vib X-Smatra V-Bullet Shad (Pretty much all of these are "bass baits") Now Megabass baits that are worth every penny. Prop Darter 110 Vision 110 Live-X Margay Stepcat Lip Less Bait Pop-X Pop-Max Just my stinky opinion. Quote

The_Natural Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 I'm one that will say they are very well constructed, beautiful baits...and that's what you pay for more so than their fish catching ability. If you know me, then you know I have no problem shelling out for a bait. However, I only own 3 Megabass lures, two I purchased used off of ebay (two griffins and one vibration) and they do catch fish...but their fish catching ability comes second to their artistry. I'm not judging my opinion soley on my experience with those three lures, but just being in and around the tornament scene and reading tournament results of the majors puts Lucky Craft at the top of the food chain...not to mention less expensive. I love the 'A Day on the Lake with a Pro' articles in Bassmaster magazine; I clip out every one and put it in a binder. These guys look at this as bragging rights, and honestly want to do well and not lay a stinker. 3 different articles...3 different pros whom are not sponsored by Lucky Craft busted out a Pointer (Iaconelli was one of them) when they were faced with tough conditions and they weren't getting bit. Lucky Craft is cosistently the only high-end bait I see pro's shell out for when they can't get them free. Megabass has artists and craftsman designing their baits...Lucky Craft has touring pro's designing theirs. Quote

Super User burleytog Posted July 11, 2008 Author Super User Posted July 11, 2008 Well, I painfully removed the Griffon from it's packaging. Wow...just wow. If only these baits weren't so darn hard on the billfold... :'( Quote

ThomasL Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 I will somewhat agree with raul about the size of the griffons,he himself advised me against the baby griffon, but in some of the private ponds i have fished they kill the salmon egg pattern one and i have yet to catch a bream on it,may be the way i fish it.The srx and mrx griffons are the size of a rebel teeny r or honey bee just wider like a wee wart and these are the baits i normally use up to a size wee r rebel and thats as big as i go on crankbaits.I will say this of the finish on the megabass,if you like to stop and go a crank and it has time to sit i believe the detail will help if he she is sitting there watching it,maybe not,a bass might not pay that much attention but one thing is for sure i have confidence in the lure and that in itself will make you a better fisherman. 8-) Quote
