Ford 5.4 Owners Beware.

2005 F250 Ford truck started skipping, carried it to the Ford dealer. They told me that the spark plugs needed replacing. I left the truck with them for two days. They replaced the # 6 coil and put in eight spark plugs. When I picked the truck up they gave me a bill for $720.33 I asked them why the bill was so high and they told me that Ford had a problem with the spark plugs in the 5.4 motors. ( the plug will strip off in the motor.)When I left the lot the truck was still skipping, so I carried it back the next day. They said one of the fuel censor's was bad and fixed it at no charge. Truck now runs fine. Just thought I would give all you Ford 5.4 owners a heads up. After going to ( Ford 5.4 problems on line ) I guess I am the lucky one. So people have spent thousands getting the heads fixed. They have like 17 million complaints and Ford said it's not their problem  Can you believe this.

The 5.4 has had plug issues from it's ***. My 4.6 has 150k on it, I'm not even sure if it has oil in it.

Yea, this problems been talked about for awhile now.

I believe they made some kind of spark plug that would keep it from getting stuck.

my 2001 F250 blew plugs out of the head driving down the road. it also went 300,000 miles......

We have a 1996 F-150 that have almost 200,000 miles on it. Had to replace the spark plugs on it one time, but it ran fine for many years after that and is still going strong.

Never had problems with my spark plugs.

But my 2001 e250 van w/5.4 blew a wrist pin at 74,000 miles. a 4,500 dollar repair

3 months after my 6yr./100.00ml. warranty ended.

at 45,000 it needed a new trans., covered

at 60,000 it needed new ball joints. , covered.

I now drive Chevy's trucks again

Not nice  I have a '99 Expedition with a 5.4, I did have a coil pack go bad a few months after I bought it but so far so good and it has 98k miles on it now. I have put 3k miles on it since I bought it in August, I pretty much only use it for towing my bassboat. My next truck will be a new Toyota Sequoia which I know no one can say anything bad about except for maybe the price  :

Just out of curiously, if General Motor decide to go public again, would anyone buy them? lol. (their stocks that is.)

My mom just recently got a 2010 Ford Sport Fusion that currently got 6,000 miles on it and in the trunk one of the liner that seals the trunk shut is peeling off..... : My dad told me take it down to dealership tomorrow and make them fix it free of charge since car still under warranty. We just bought it about 3 months ago.

so, was it really a problem with the head and spark plugs, or did they just tell you that to get 700 out of you?? food for thought.  I took my car in with a broken cv joint, (warrenty repair) and had just changed my spark plugs, wires, intake, and air filter the day before... sure enough, the guy calls and says they're going to fix the cv joint for free, but he noticed that my spark plugs and air filter are overdue for a change... obviously he never checked them or he would have seen they were brand new.

I change my own spark plugs and wires, it's very cheap, very easy. One thing i learned a long time ago is that if it's not warranty work and 100% fixed for free, the absolute WORST place to take your car is to the dealer.

Yep, happens all the time.  Because your average person doesn't know any better, and I bet there's a tremendous amount of people that don't even know where the air filter/spark plugs/tranny filter etc are. 

a haynes or similar manual will save people thousands.  My fiance wouldn't let me change her tranny fluid (this was when we first started dating) until she was quoted almost $200, and the next time we were at walmart I showed her a bottle of fluid for 2 dollars, and a filter for 6 lol.  So for 8 dollars I changed it...  After that, I was "allowed" to work on the car.

Who said it was a quart? they come in bigger containers ya know. Up until about a year ago, I was a very prominent member of several car forums, and used to have people from all over come to get help on their car. So when it came to fluids and stuff like that, I always bought the big ones which would end up being cheaper. I got sick of all the punk *** know it all kids after the fast and furious phase, so I haven't been active on any of those forums for a while. Now I buy the "regular" containers.

Anyways the point was with some basic knowledge of cars you can save thousands over the life of yours.
