florida strain Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Does anyone, go hunting without bait, food plots, feeders, motion cameras, stands, blinds ect.? It seems most folks don't run dogs, walk the fire lanes or brush no more to spook up something.I guess this is where it turned from a survival harvest to a sport. To me it would be like fishing a private stocked pond. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted May 15, 2010 Super User Posted May 15, 2010 I refuse to hunt food plots, cabin size blinds, feeders, or fenced or released animals. Give me a spot and stalk elk hunt any day. Quote
SDoolittle Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I mainly quail hunt. I put a lot of miles on my boots following bird dogs. On the rare occasion that I go deer hunting, I prefer to still-hunt. I never much cared for sitting in a stand. Quote

Super User burleytog Posted May 15, 2010 Super User Posted May 15, 2010 I prefer to do my hunting before the season. That way when the season starts, I can start shooting. Quote
Triton21 Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I prefer to do my hunting before the season. That way when the season starts, I can start shooting. I'm with you Burley. I start hunting(scouting) at least 2 months before season. I hunt Funnel areas. I know where the Turkey and Deer are and what they are doing long before Opening Morning. Groundhogs and Coyote are Summer fun. Kelley Quote

Kelley My scouting consists of making sure the deer are still coming out in the fields. In my 20 years of hunting, I've killed three or four deer in the woods. Everything else is in open fields. I detest stalking. If there wasn't a state road cutting through the family farm, there would be food plots everywhere. As it is, I still plant a few here and there just to keep 'em fed. But I'm a little different. Deer hunting is nuisance control around here. Quote
1inStripes Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 And anyone is welcome to do nuisance control around my house. I detest ramming those critters with my truck or car. As for the hunting side of things, I have only rabbit hunted my whole life. Tried turkey hunting a couple of times, but nothing to show for it. A trip to the midwest is something I want to do soon for some birds though. Quote

I always found poaching a more preferable way to hunt myself as well. W-a-y fewer people in the woods plus you don't have to worry about others horning in on my baited, food plot with decoys below my air conditioned/heated tree tower with the built-in TV and recliner. Mattlures Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I hunt in open dry deserty mountains. Its a lot of hiking and more glassing. Our hunter success rate is usualy between 3% and 7%. I get a buck every year because I work harder then the other 95% of the hunters. I dont have anything against blinds and feeders, it just doesnt seem like it would be fun. I want to get out and find them. Quote
bassman31783 Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 I mainly hunt Hogs. Many times crawling on my hands & knees to get to their areas. Hog hunting is much more fun then deer hunting to me although I do love deer hunting. Quote
Red Bear Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 i hunt from my kitchen window most times, just wait for the deer to step into the backyard or the field beside the house, sneak out the front door with my rifle and get in position where i can see them and wait till one gives me a good shot. shot one right off the back porch a couple years ago within 3 minutes of crawling out of bed. of course i will go up in the fields and position myself along the edge of the woods and wait for them to come out as well, and occasionally ill get in a tree stand which im not fond of. there are so many deer in western Loudoun County, VA that i dont need to use feeders or throw out apples or corn or anything Quote
Olebiker Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 What passes for deer hunting today would get you locked up when I was a younger fella. Quote
