VABasser Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I started using the drop shot a few weeks ago and really like it but it seems like I get a ton of line twist when fishing it. I'm throwing it on baitcasting gear with 12 lb Yo Zuri hybrid. I'm wondering if there's anything to reduce this or if its something that I have to accept. And do you guys have any favorite baits to fish on the dropshot. I've mainly just used Zoom finesse and trick worms so far. Thanks for any help Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted July 7, 2008 Super User Posted July 7, 2008 what type of sinker are you using and how are you tying it on? Quote
Super User burleytog Posted July 7, 2008 Super User Posted July 7, 2008 Line twist is inherent to the rig. The perpendicular hook acts as a keel. Try a Spro Power Swivel (get their smallest one) above the hook. Quote
JShrock07 Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Try this.... http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/drop-shot.html Another great way to learn is by watching "BASSPRO'S" on the Outdoor channel, There is a great instructional demo shown by KVD....AKA the man!!! That tought me exactly how to do it properly. Tivo it and rewind it as you try to setup your pole the same way... thats what I did Good Luck!!! Quote
VABasser Posted July 7, 2008 Author Posted July 7, 2008 Thanks guys, after reading that article I think I just need to put a swivel on above the hook to help with line twist. I've just been using a regular bell shaped sinker because thats all I could find at my local tackle stores and didnt feel like having to order off the internet Quote
rally73sport Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Hey Va, I fish the drop shot 95% of the time however I'm throwing on spinning gear w/ 6 to 10 pound test flourcarbon line. Line twist is part of the rig but I found using the West Coast Tackle Quickdrop wieghts (Tackle Warehouse.com) will help cut this down without using a swievel. I personally don't like a swievel because its just one more area for failure when you hook a fish. As far as baits I love hand poured plastics, I only use Roboworms products. I have found they have more action and catch better quailty fish then injected molded plastics. Also be sure not to go crazy with hook size it kills the action of the bait. Hope this helps and tight lines. Quote
