Super User Dan: Posted April 26, 2010 Super User Posted April 26, 2010 Is anybody else watching this series on the History Channel? It's pretty decent so far, but I'm not sure why they have celebrities doing commentary (Colin Powell, Rudy Giuliani, Donald Trump, etc). I think it would be better if they had the normal History channel commentators like authors and professors who are experts in the time period being discussed. Quote
Carrington Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 i actually enjoy them having top government figures and celebrities doing it. They really outdid themselves on this production. i love it thus far. another good one im watching at them moment is into the universe with stephen hawking, on discovery channel Quote
Super User Dan: Posted April 26, 2010 Author Super User Posted April 26, 2010 What sort of credibility can P. Diddy, Meryl Streep, Sheryl Crow, and Michael Douglas offer to a show about American history? Quote
Carrington Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 i dont know, i just like stuff thats different and them being on there is different. but i stopped watching it after my last post on this topic and watched stephen hawking who i believe is much more interesting imho Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted April 26, 2010 Super User Posted April 26, 2010 I watched "America, The story of Us" and recorded the Stephen Hawking show. Shame they had both on at the same time. Quote

Super User Alpster Posted April 26, 2010 Super User Posted April 26, 2010 I am DVRing it. I just hope it's based on facts and not revised history. Ronnie Quote

D4u2s0t Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 What sort of credibility can P. Diddy, Meryl Streep, Sheryl Crow, and Michael Douglas offer to a show about American history? they can offer little to none... but, they can bring people to the show that the history channel hosts can't. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted April 26, 2010 Super User Posted April 26, 2010 I watched it last night, was pretty neat. I get a kick out of the plugs for American Bank though. : Quote
ClarkGriswald Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 Not got to watch it hopefully they will have the full episode available online. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted April 27, 2010 Super User Posted April 27, 2010 I DVRed it and watched it yesterday. So far I'm liking it and hope it is consistant through out. I didn't see the other on Discovery, I'll have to search for it, they usually replay them several times. I always like the History channels shows like that, one of my favorites is tge Amercan Presidents, they did a full day marathon on presidents day and I loaded my DVR. Quote
tallydude Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 I'm going to school at Florida State, majoring in history with the intention of going to grad school to get my Ph.D. I'm enjoying the series very much. History Channel is doing a nice job presenting American history in a very accessible format for casual viewers. Quote
Sweetwater Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 1st Seargeant William Bodette makes up for all the "celebrities" on the show. Quote
FishingBuds Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Its put together real well, But I can tell its all one sided Quote
Super User Dan: Posted May 6, 2010 Author Super User Posted May 6, 2010 Its put together real well, But I can tell its all one sided for example? Quote

Super User Bassn Blvd Posted May 10, 2010 Super User Posted May 10, 2010 I was enjoying the show until they put Al Sharpton's ugly mug in it. I would have rather seen/heard from Rosie O'Donnell then his dumb ars. Quote

NOPE, you can't make me And that boys, is what we call a Troll. I didn't think of you as pot stirrer Glenn ;D OK I will make a small statement on my post, since im being called out on a opinion of mine, which by the way could turn into a Lock Down, so IMO Hollywood is a one sided political arena of LIFE style, and seeing all of the Hollywood guest on there is a indicator that they will only tell a one sided story. Brilliantly put together and remarkable screening but, the special guest ruin its ability to be a super story. now hopefully no one will call pick on me anymore Quote
Super User Dan: Posted May 11, 2010 Author Super User Posted May 11, 2010 So you don't actually have any REAL examples of how it's "one sided" you just decided that you think it seems like it's going to be one-sided. How empirical of you. Quote

How empirical of you. Dan? you have throwed me for a loop, You asked in your first post "Is anybody else watching this series on the History Channel? It's pretty decent so far, but I'm not sure why they have celebrities doing commentary (Colin Powell, Rudy Giuliani, Donald Trump, etc). I think it would be better if they had the normal History channel commentators like authors and professors who are experts in the time period being discussed." my first and third post seems to contribute to your first post with exception that mine are in different words or a bolder statement. again, its a good show but seems one sided. why? you ask me??, IMO its the Hollywood guest, soooo is there a problem???????????????????????????????????????? Troll or not, someone is looking for a argument here and its not me. But, i know its gonna be my problem, im not popular enough, This is nuts, only place i know where you can agree with someone and still get attacked : Just wait and see the next few post from you and others but i would gladly wish to be wrong Quote
Super User Dan: Posted May 11, 2010 Author Super User Posted May 11, 2010 how is "being one sided" the same as what I said? "One sided" suggests that it demonstrates a bias or purveys a certain point of view. How is that relevant to my complaint about the celebrities' lack of historical expertise? Maybe I should clarify. I do not dislike the celebrity appearances because of what they have to say (most of what they say is very generic, vague, and almost cliche) but rather because there are people who are ten times more qualified to offer commentary on certain time periods...
