Evan Pease Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Anyone have any reccomendations for a good fish weigher? Quote
MusicMan Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I recently just bought the little scale that isn't digital. It's been around forever. I looked at the lip grip digitals but couldn't justify the difference between $4 and $60 for the scale. However, I'm sure I will end up with the $60 version soon enough. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 9, 2008 Super User Posted July 9, 2008 If you can pop for Boga-Grip, they're the bomb! http://www.boga-grip.com/ Otherwise, this is the Rapala version: http://www.sportsauthority.com/sm-rapala-proguide-20lb-lock-n-weigh--pi-1761696.html 8-) Quote

If so ive got one from BPS on sale for around 3-5 dollars. Quote
MusicMan Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Mine is black plastic with an aluminum (silver) face and back. It's probably the same one just a different color. I've been fishing for 25 years. Thta is the first scale I believe I've ever owned. Makes me wonder how many fish might have weighed more than I thought, or less. Quote
Masshole Mike Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 i use the berkley digital lip grip scale, at $50 it's less than half the price of a boga. never had a problem with it and the lip gripper has come in handy many times. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0011558014820a&navCount=3&podId=0011558&parentId=cat90002&masterpathid=&navAction=jump&cmCat=MainCatcat20166-cat90002&catalogCode=IJ&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat90002&hasJS=true Quote
Aaron Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I have the Berkley 50 lb. digital scale. It has held up pretty well. I will probably get one of the lip grips soon. Quote
21farms Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 before buying one, i'd recommend reading the user reviews at cabelas and BPS...some are shockingly inaccurate as was my experience with a few. i now have a berkley TEC digital scale and i've tested it extensively and it amazingly accurate and consistent so i highly recommend it. if i didn't already have a lip gripper, i'd have gone with a boga. Joe Boss Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I have a Normark, 10lb digital scale I "borrowed" from my dad's tackle box. I "replaced" it with a Rapala 25lb mechanical scale. Quote
tritz18 Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Look at cabelas and bps they have some nice scales that are affordable. I personally have a 50lb cabelas digital scale that was $20. Works great except for the hook should be sharper for the fish to hang on. but all in all its a great scale. Quote
Evan Pease Posted July 9, 2008 Author Posted July 9, 2008 Thanks. Ill probably go with the Berkley they us for the unofficial weights in tourneys. I need a reel more than a boga. Quote
riverfisher Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I bought a Rapala Kit that came with 15lb scale, snippers, plyers and a few other things at dicks for like 30 somethin bones works great!! I also use a bass bag when culling, they keep your fish nice and calm. http://www.bag-em.com/ Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted July 10, 2008 Super User Posted July 10, 2008 Another vote for the Boga Grip. Besides being precise, it's also very durable and very cool. Quote
George Welcome Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Boga Grip not for sale - used almost daily for the last 13 years and still looks new and is as accurate as the day it was certified by the IGFA. Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted July 10, 2008 Super User Posted July 10, 2008 I'm not up on the latest. Just don't skimp and calibrate whatever you get -regularly. I use light dumbell weights. I've got a Chatillon spring scale. Rather expensive and old technology (20 some years now) -which may actually be a good thing! Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted July 10, 2008 Super User Posted July 10, 2008 What George (and a few others) & Paul said: Chatillon or Boga; Both certifiable by the IGFA and accurate as hell. I use a certified Chatillon myself. Most probably don't want or need this level of accuracy though. -T9 Quote
Evan Pease Posted July 10, 2008 Author Posted July 10, 2008 If I were to get one of the nicer scales how do you get them certified? Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted July 10, 2008 Super User Posted July 10, 2008 If I were to get one of the nicer scales how do you get them certified? Just need to mail it to them with a check 8-) Here's the details... http://www.igfa.org/ScaleCertificationInfo.pdf -T9 Quote
