this stuff sucks!

i got infected with some ransomware called AP Manager.

it was an imposter copyright violation warning, and it would appear when i tried to log in, and wouldn't let me access my desktop. basically it was saying that i violated some copyright s, and there was a lawsuit against me and i could either send the case to court or settle out of court by giving them my credit card information to pay a fine. what a joke : it was a b***h to remove too! had to boot in safe mode and delete some registry files.

I know your pain, if you were able to google it, Malwarebytes and Rkill.com are tools to help remove these sorts of things.

Rkill.com kills the spyware, and then you are able to work on removing the virus through malwarebytes.

It has worked pretty good. I found a patch to allow full access to Malware, and it monitors your system sort of like an anti-virus but for free.

It also removes the registry files it infected.

WE had this issue a few weeks ago, my sweetie renamed the files, this allowed her to delete them.

   Every time she tried, the system booted her until she renamed those files first.  Then deleted them.

after i deleted the registry files in safe mode, the computer seemed to work fine, then i got online and downloaded malwarebytes (it was recommended by the site that had removal instructions for the ransomware) and did a full system scan. then i got online for a bit while it was running and i was just browsing a page and norton started freaking out so i shut off my computer before anything could get infected. when i turned it back on i was just browsing the page again and norton started blocking a bunch of crap again. i ran a quick scan with malwarebytes and it found and removed 40 infected files! ran a full scan afterwards and let it finish, removed 1 more infected file. computer seems to be in good shape now.

What they do makes them crooks. Deliberately causing havoc on innocent victim's computers and messing with their personal property. There's no excuse for their actions. If they were so "brilliant", they'd already have jobs.

It always seems that malwarebytes is the solution, I wouldn't be surprised if they are creating them in the first place

well in my case, i couldn't use malwarebytes (besides the fact that i didn't have it at the time) because i couldn't even access my desktop at all, the fake copyright violation alert would come up after the login screen, and if i tried to close it a new window came up saying it was refusal to comply and asked for my home address, and if i closed that i was back to the fake alert.

It is funny because I did the same thing Dave did when my system was breached, I scrambled for the plug.
