JShrock07 Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I fish a tidal water mainly, and I have caught quite a few bass on a fluke. I fish a lot of shallow water where I can fish the fluke fairly fast but I am trying to learn the deep water better. I was wondering if, when fishing a fluke should I add a weight to help it get to the bottom faster? I also have a good amount of the "Slug-Go" baits and I'm not so sure how to fish these baits. If anyone could please educate me on fishing them I would greatly appreciate it. Also the fluke.... I let it sink about 30-40 seconds and usually it gets down to about 5-8' depending on the tide and then I just jerk it and pause and jerk and pause.... Am I fishing this properly? Please help me... Thank You!!!!!!! Nitro Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 8, 2008 Super User Posted July 8, 2008 I rig the Slug-Go weightless and fish it with subtle twitches to immitate a feeding minnow. 8-) Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted July 8, 2008 Super User Posted July 8, 2008 The Fluke and Sluggo are both soft jerkbaits, fish them the same way. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted July 8, 2008 Super User Posted July 8, 2008 Theres nothing wrong with fishing the slug-o wacky style with a weight inserted in the nose section Quote
CRFisher Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I've put a small split shot about 12 inches up the line. Not really for the sink but for added casting distance although it does sink a bit more. These were bass assassins shad. I think the super fluke has a bit more weight to it. The bass don't seem to mind. Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I like the Slug-go better than the fluke. I love walking the dog just under the surface with it. Also I dunno if I have a bait I like more in heavy wood cover or lily pads. Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 My two favorite soft jerkbaits are Lunker City Fin-S and YUM Houdini Shad. The Houdini shad has an amazing tail action on the fall when you don't remove the middle piece from the tail, and the Fin-S come in a great variety of sizes and colors with a tremendous injured-looking action. If I were you I wouldn't wait 30-40 seconds for the bait to sink on every cast unless the fish aren't biting it any other way. You should look into weighted wide-gap hooks. My favorite of that style are the Mustad Ultra Point because you stick the holder into the nose of the bait so you don't have to tear it to insert the hook. Try these hooks out and fish the bait the same way you would weightless. You can even adjust the weight to change the actions http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/standard-pod-wrapped.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/pod-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20166-cat20291&rid=&indexId=cat20291&navAction=push&masterpathid=&navCount=1&parentType=index&parentId=cat20291&id=0024537 Quote
The_Natural Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 It seems as if more people these days go with the fluke versus the Slug-go, but I'm a Slug-go man myself. The Slug-go just has the perfect, non-exaggerated action when you twitch it, and then it just glides. My favorite color is the watermelon shad Quote
JShrock07 Posted July 8, 2008 Author Posted July 8, 2008 On the Slug-go it has the little marks about half way down for added movement, Should you hook the bait with a smaller hook so the hook goes in just above the marks??? or does that not matter? Quote
Super User Marty Posted July 8, 2008 Super User Posted July 8, 2008 These were bass assassins shad. I think the super fluke has a bit more weight to it. Actually, the Bass Assassins 5" are about 15% heavier than Super Flukes. Quote
CRFisher Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I've only seen the Bass Assassins in a smaller size, I think what I had were 3 inch. I don't see them around much (WalMart, Dicks, etc.). I'll have to find me the 5", I liked them better than the Super Flukes. Quote
iamjoe2 Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 i use bass assasin 4" but im running out and there hard to findso i guess ill have to order online... Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Warning for ordering bass assassin online... I ordered a ton of Charm Assassins a year ago (their version of the trick worm) directly from their official website, and about half of them were quite stiff, too stiff for me. I dunno if they forgot to add softener, or what, but take that into consideration. Quote
