Can anyone tell me why country music has degenerated to the point that Taylor Swift would be named as Female Vocalist of the Year and Entertainer of the Year?

She doesn't sing country music, she sings teen music.  Could it be that the music that kids like to listen to has degenerated to the point that they are crossing-over to alternative music?  What's the new word for this new genre?  Country hormones?

In either case, include me out.  I've got a Johnny Cash CD in the player.  I think I'll listen to it.

The only thing I know about these various award ceremonies for this, that, and the other thing is that there are so many of them, they have become irrelevant.

Seems there is some type of ceremony for awards to every type of entertainment known to man.

Then again, I am an old fuddy duddy, who looks down his nose at all these how great we are gatherings.

The only meaningful awards are those bestowed by the public in the form of sales and attendance.

You hit it Tom, now days there is an award for everything when it comes to the entertainment industry.  What would really take the cake would be a best actor/actress award going to a reality show participant. ;D

There's a lot of "country" I don't like either.

However, groups like Rascal Flatts, Keith

Urban, Taylor Swift and others have attracted

a younger crowd. Over time, a new generation

has become real fans. My daughter is one of

them.

I like most of the old stars and their music,

but I like a lot of today's talent, too! BTW,

are King George, Reba and Alan Jackson

"old school" or new?

Can't complain about the "Southern Rock / Country" style either. I got to see Montgomery Gentry a few times and they were great.

You guys are probably complaining the same way your parents did when you were growing up listening to the same crap that your parents thought was crap.

Sorry to say times are changing and you either change with it, or shut your mouths  ;D

As most old people say records, and adults say tape and CD's, the new youth has changed to MP3's.

No sense in complaining, you don't have to listen to it.

Country was always a sound that you knew back in our day, it was a distinct sound that had its own Viv, that sound isn't the same anymore, and yet its country they say, I call it country pop or bubble gum country and if they would create this category then that would make better understanding.

would you put Blink182 in the same category as Ozzy? I wouldn't nor would I put Taylor swift in with Tammy Wynette, or Rascal Fats with Merle Hagar

Right on RW.  I grew up listening to rap, r&b, pop, and some rock...guys like Keith Urban and company are able to mix that country in with the new sound.  That's the only reason why I even listen to these "country" songs.

Times have changed and to be able to succeed in today's world...you have to adapt.  Just like fishing...you got to learn to listen to what the fish is telling you.

Country

I wish a buck was still silver.

It was back when the country was strong.

Back before Elvis; before the Vietnam war came along.

Before The Beatles and "Yesterday",

When a man could still work, and still would.

Is the best of the free life behind us now?

Are the good times really over for good?

Are we rolling down hill like a snowball headed for hell?

With no kind of chance for the Flag or the Liberty bell.

Wish a Ford and a Chevy,

Could still last ten years, like they should.

Is the best of the free life behind us now?

Are the good times really over for good?

I wish coke was still cola,

And a joint was a bad place to be.

And it was back before Nixon lied to us all on TV.

Before microwave ovens,

When a girl could still cook and still would.

Stop rolling down hill like a snowball headed for hell.

Stand up for the Flag and let's all ring the Liberty bell.

Let's make a Ford and a Chevy,

Still last ten years, like they should.

The best of the free life is still yet to come,

The good times ain't over for good.

Yea, they put on a hell of a show. The last time I saw them they covered some Bob Seger, and it was really good.

I really want to see Brooks and Dunn this summer, but if my body lets me, I am going to follow Phish around for a bit.
