BUCKEYEone Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 I went out on my first fishing trip of the year (finally) on Saturday. I hooked my first fish on my fifth cast and while landing the fish I broke the top 6 inches off my spinning rod. This rod was an old cheap Cabela's Quantum combo 6'6" ML that I hadn't gotten rid of because it still did the trick. I just started a new job a few weeks ago and haven't gotten that first paycheck yet, so I knew that I wouldn't be "authorized" to go buy a new rod quite yet. Today my wife was walking into her office when someone pulled up in their parking lot, opened their door and tossed out a Chihuahua puppy and then drove off. She asked if she could keep the dog. Not being a fan of small dogs, I was hesitant until she bribed me by saying I could go out and buy a new rod to replace the one I broke. I am now the new owner of a Chihuahua puppy with PTSD and shopping for a new all-around spinning rod! I'm still not sure this is a good deal. I hope the new rod lasts as long as the new dog! Quote
b.Lee Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 You did a good thing man. For the puppy and yourself. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted April 7, 2010 Super User Posted April 7, 2010 You should have gotten a new reel out of the deal too. Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted April 7, 2010 Super User Posted April 7, 2010 You should have gotten a new reel out of the deal too. X2 Quote
ichigo Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 she should let u buy 5 rods and 5 reels dog is a lot of work Quote
b.Lee Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 You know what I find funny about your situation though is that I would honestly say 90% of Women, if you tried that on them, they would see right through it and say no. Quote
BUCKEYEone Posted April 7, 2010 Author Posted April 7, 2010 When I said "you can keep the dog if I can buy a new spinning rod" she quickly said yes. To test how badly she wanted this dog I said "a $300 rod"... silence, so I threw in "...and a $250 reel" and was quickly reminded of how little money we both make. She agreed to the rod at least! Super User South FLA Posted April 8, 2010 Super User Posted April 8, 2010 New puppy=$$$$$$$ New rod/reel combo=$ Now go get your man card back and buy a GLX with a Stradic or better yet, sell the newly arrived pup before your wife gets too attached and upgrade to a Stella, heard those Mexican puppies fetch a high price. farmpond1 Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Is your wife going to walk the "dog," feed the "dog," clean up after the "dog" when it craps and pees all over the carpet, etc? Unless the answer is yes, she clearly got the better part of the deal. My sister had a chi hua hua and it was a neurotic, vicious little cuss. Quote
BUCKEYEone Posted April 8, 2010 Author Posted April 8, 2010 She knows that all pee and crap is her responsibility! She definitely got the better part of the deal, though and she knows it. Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted April 8, 2010 Super User Posted April 8, 2010 I can't wait to see the thread that comes up when the dog chews the new rod...... : Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted April 9, 2010 Super User Posted April 9, 2010 You will be a much happier man if you have the vocal cords removed from that little rat dog. Quote
moby bass Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Maybe that's the reason the previous owner "dropped it off" Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted April 9, 2010 Super User Posted April 9, 2010 Talk about dog extremes; we own two dogs. A Boston Terrier, who is deaf and the most obnoxious chiwawa you've ever seen. I lost the rat battle to my wife and daughters. I hang out with Buster. Sometimes I wish I was deaf like him....... Quote
RedhookRR Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Two things needed- earplugs and a dog crate My wife wanted one, I just reminded her that her aussie would think it was a chew toy. Oh and you can bet they bought the pup for a 1000 bucks too. Quote
Super User Sam Posted April 9, 2010 Super User Posted April 9, 2010 Redhook, you know Aussies are one of the sweetest dogs alive. Our grandog is an Aussie and he is a blast. He has no interest in any other dogs but he gets along with all dogs he meets. All he wants to do is play, run, play, run, play, run, and on and on and on and on..... Quote
RedhookRR Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Ya Sam love mine but he is a has his issues. Friendly to a point with people and good with animals though. Miss my Staffordshire though she was the sweetest thing. Had to put her down last year from cancer. Do have to say both were and are great with my son from birth to 3 yrs old now. Quote
