Found out this handy trick yesterday.

Some of you know that I ended up falling in the lake yesterday, soaking my cell phone in the process.

I found most of the suggestions for helping to save the phone were to disconnect the batter, dry off the visible water and....put it in rice?   Huh?

Not having anything to lose, I gave it a shot.  I'll be darned if the thing isn't working like new again.

I'm glad someone invented the internet.   ;D

Someone needs to invent a way to get the phone out of 10 (probably closer to 20 now) feet of water easily without going in after it.

I've heard of that trick before. I've also heard of putting wet electronics (without the battery) in the oven at VERY low temps to dry them out.

Wow! I'm glad this got posted. I just dropped my phone in the lake 2 days ago. I will give that a shot tonight. Hopefully it works for me! Thank you!

It worked on one of my iPhones when I fell in the lake the other hit saltwater and you know what happens to electronics in saltwater!!  Went through 2 iPhones in a week last summer.

Been looking at these for the last couple weeks, it should be perfect for those unforseen events and am switchin' to one on Monday:http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/US-EN/Consumer-Product-and-Services/Mobile-Phones/Motorola-Quantico-US-EN

It might not be the end all phone, but I played with one yesterday and it's not overly bulky and has an outdoorsy look to it.  Don't think it quite floats though.

ive had a couple different phones become completely submerged before that all eventually dried out and worked fine, without rice. which i'm  sure speeds the process but cell phones are tough little buggers. except iphones, i'd imagine

The rice definitely worked. My last phone took a minimum of 6 full dunkings and still worked fine the day I retired it.

My brother drinks like a fish, hence he has went through quite a few phone due to drunken shenanigans.  He purchased the above phone a month ago, and he has had very high praise for it's durability.

Got one of these a year ago. The g'zone rock I think its called. Made by Casio. Thing isawesome. Shock proof, water proof, dust proof.

Has an electronic compass and built in flashlight too!

I got the orange one, easier to spot when its at the bottom of the river.  ;)
