Super User Tin Posted April 6, 2010 Author Super User Posted April 6, 2010 That's great you're almost done. Finance or Econ? I have 2 semesters left then grad school. : It's a never ending process. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted April 6, 2010 Super User Posted April 6, 2010 Professionalism In Accounting (I will probably pull my hair out in this class.) Financial Accounting I Management Accounting Business Finance Organizational Management. (I will probably pull my hair out in this class, also.) Quote
Super User Tin Posted April 6, 2010 Author Super User Posted April 6, 2010 I don't know how you guys do the accounting, business, and finance stuff. It would drive me insane. I dodged all of that during my Gen Eds somehow. My girlfriend got an associates or some certifications in it from Hofstra now that she is back her and out of NYC she is going for Speech Pathology with a minor in Spanish. There seems to be just so many people in my neck of the woods that do not have jobs but degrees in accounting/finance/business/marketing with more experience it would be useless to go for a degree in those areas. I know a couple of the schools in the state have seen a large drop in those majors. Quote

I know a couple of the schools in the state have seen a large drop in those majors. Exactly why I'm trying make highest grade I can in all of my accounting classes. I figured with perfect score in accounting, economic, etc, it will give me an edge over my peers in competing for an internship. (I have an A in both of my economic class, A in accounting I, currently an A in accounting II, and currently an A in business statistic.) This summer I plan to take a tax exam from H&R block or Jackson Hewitt, even if I don't get a job after passing the exam, it will be something to add to the resume. Of course joining the Finance club won't hurt. In the words of AC/DC "it's a long way to the top..." I really wish I had the ability to speak foreign language(s). Especially in today's economy where everything going global. My accounting professor talked about a new accounting regulation that will affect every business worldwide, rather than each country with their own accounting standard. There are English speaking countries in Caribbeans and elsewhere hiring American accountant with a CPA license, maybe I find a job abroad. Who knows.. P.S. I wish I had the ability to dodge both of my biology classes, philosophy, and Western Literature. I'm taking psychology by choice and it is okay, but it nothing interesting.. Quote
Super User Tin Posted April 6, 2010 Author Super User Posted April 6, 2010 Dude, an accounting job on a Caribbean Island...that might make me forget about bass fishing, lol. I'm definitely with you on the Western Literature. Shakespeare I really enjoy, but I took a Gen Ed Western Lit class that was solely based on Sir Gawain and the Green Knight with a prof that could have been Sir Gawain himself. No joke he looked like a 6'4" version of that creepy "Precious" thing from The Lord of the Rings. Quote
bmadd Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 I'm in finance. Accounting is a language I don't comprehend. I'm looking into going into a small community bank where things aren't as competitive. Rural West TN is no big city or anything haha. I'm going to try to work out of school before going to a few banking schools. Most graduate programs for those in banking require job experience. I could've been just as happy in History or English but I just didn't want to teach. I tried Biology for my first year and Chemistry and Cell biology were just too tough. Quote
bowfish12 Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 I can't register until the 13th, but I will be taking a couple chemistry classes, math, and maybe technical writing or another chemistry. Quote

Saltwater fishing will help me cope with the loss of bass fishing. ;D When I was in Cayman Island two years ago, they had banks that was hiring accountants with CPA license, but the real estate in Cayman for a 3 bedroom condo goes around 400 grands. And that priced in C.I. dollars. Where the U.S. dollar is depreciated against it. It a small amount, but nonetheless it depreciated. Oh well. How do you like all of the upper level psychology class? My roommate is majoring in psychology with minor in biology. He hoping he can take it into med school one day. Quote
tyrius. Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 I know I won't be having a life... Get married and have a couple of kids and then you can talk about not having a life! I dream of going back to college. Even senior year with 1 CPA prep class that was 4 hrs (8-12) M, T, Th, F and three other classes on top of that. Quote

I'm pretty sure the joke was geared towards the ones he knew rather than bankers in general. lol. Good luck with your final semester and getting job. Quote

It could all revert back to the saying of " I can't wait to be done with high school", but I dream of the day where I work 40 hours a week and have to deal with a family instead of 40 hours a week and 18 credits, lol. Luckily I will only have to take 15 or less the next few semesters. I'm done with being a poor college student. Quote
bmadd Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 Root Beer, that doesn't surprise me. I always wondered why some people grouped them in bad jokes with lawyers and used car salesmen but after all of the "crisis" I now know why. Good luck to you in accounting man. I'm struggling to get through intermediate accounting right now. Quote
