Fish Chris Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 I never had before. But the night before last, while brushing my teeth, I looked in the mirror, and Holy $%#* ! The whole right side, of my right eye, was beyond red ! I mean, like it was filled with blood ! Pretty scary actually. No pain. No vision problems.... but really ugly ! I did a little surfing on medical sites, and read that this is pretty common, and generally looks worse than it really is. Not much to treat it, but it usually goes away in 1 to 2 weeks. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ So what did I decide to do the next day ? Well, go fishing all day, in the wind, and bright sun, of course Recommended by eye doctors everywhere, I'm sure Have you ever had this happen to you ? Do you know what caused it ? How long did it take to heal ? Fish Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted March 28, 2010 Super User Posted March 28, 2010 Don't know a thing about it but it happens to my step dad all the time. Usually goes a way in 5-7 days. :-/ Quote
Fishing Doug Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 That happened to me once and I know exactly what caused it-a fist. Cleared up in about a week. Quote
Deb Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 In my professional opinion.....going fishing is the appropriate treatment for subconjunctival hemorrhage. It should be treated daily for proper healing......... ;D I'm sure you've read, it is typically harmless. More common in folks with high blood pressure and ones on blood thinners. Yes, it may take two weeks to completely disappear, depending on the size of the burst vessel. I had one pop while mowing the yard......not hypertensive and not on blood thinners but it still happens. Looks wicked 8-) Quote
SkilletSizeBass. Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Yes, it happened to me, in both eyes, about 7years ago. I had a heart attack and had to be shocked in the er, like 7 times. Both my eyes were blood red from where it busted the blood vessels. And, besides almost biting my tongue completely off, I was quite a site for awhile. Quote
Sfritr Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 My mother in law has this happen to her about once every two months. I thought is was just to make her uglier and more annoying than she usually is...... : : I didn't actually know it was a medical thing Quote
fishinfewl Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Probably happened to me and I just put some Visine on it. Glad they go away though. Quote
swilly78 Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 I had it happen to me a few months ago. I got alittle to drunk at my stepsons welcome home party, and had to throw up before passing out. Well I woke up in the morning, and discovered my eye had turned a horrible shade of red. Turns out, it was from puking, the force of it blew out my capilaries in my eye. Never play beer pong with young Marines. You will lose, and its not possible to keep up with them. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted March 28, 2010 Super User Posted March 28, 2010 I've had it happen several times and the cause was violent sneezing. A Spring pollen allergy is the culprit most of the time. Quote
Fish Chris Posted March 29, 2010 Author Posted March 29, 2010 Thank you guys. I knew it was pretty common, but geez is it ugly ! .....not that I'm the "prettiest" guy in the first place ;D ;D Thank God for my fishing glasses Oh yea' Swilly, my best friend had the same thing from puking his guts out too. I don't think I have high blood pressure now, as along with losing 50 lbs, my doctor still wanted to put me on blood pressure meds, so I think its "finally" normal, after 20+ years, of being high. On the other hand, is blood pressure medication also a "blood thinner" ? Hmmmm, Fish Quote
senko_77 Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 I burst them all the freakin time when I puke. Really sucks. You can tell when Senko77 had a good night when my eyes are blood red the next morning! Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted March 29, 2010 Super User Posted March 29, 2010 I burst them all the freakin time when I puke. Really sucks. You can tell when Senko77 had a good night when my eyes are blood red the next morning! X2 Happened when I had an ear infection a few years back. It was like I was looking through a gray veil. Quote
NewAngler Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 yea, I get the ole popped blood vessel after puking eye too. Doesnt happen often, though. It looks pretty badass. Whenever someone asks what happend, you just say, "Shoulda seen the other guy." Quote
bassdocktor Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 FishChris, Although many people are commonly on both blood pressure medications and blood thinners they are 2 different things really. Blood thinners (asprin and warfarin/coumadin) are usually used to help prevent clots, while "blood pressure" (diuretics, beta blockers, ACE inhibitor and others) medications are used to lower your blood pressure. Those are some quick differences. There are alot more and other uses for each of them. PM me if you have any more questions. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted March 30, 2010 Super User Posted March 30, 2010 Had it happen once. Went away in about a week. Everybody said I looked like a maniac. Quote
LCpointerKILLA Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I got it horrible one time a couple years ago from vomiting. Both eyes. We were passing the old bottle of Cuervo for whatever stupid reason and it ended up as the worst night and next day I have ever had in my life. Quote
bocabasser Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 i was in the keys one year snorkeling for lobster in about 12-15 feet of water. towards the end of the day a friend of mine found a gold mine of keepers on this ledge at 22 feet. i went down and cleaned up every keeper and when i got in the boat, my friend said "dude your eye is completely blood shot. went to the doctor and he said the pressure caused a vessel to pop. it looks gnarly, but it will go away in a couple of weeks.
