I have 3 kids in public high school as we speak. For those who pray add me. :) From pre-school to 8th grade they were in a private christian school and my wife and I consider it the best investment we made in assisting us in the educating of our children. Omaha has wonderful schools and our area of town is one of the finest public systems in the country. We are pleased with what they're receiving in high school. My son will go to a private university next year. We chose the private school for foundation, first spiritually, second for the education. I too agree I have no use for religiosity. I am very interested in my children's spiritual well being and was willing to pay for that. If I wasn't and had quality education that I have already paid for with my tax dollar, remember with private education you choose to pay twice, that is where my children would go to school. By the way $9,100 for pre-school should include a rocket ride or something, very expensive.

I 'll speak for my area.

I have a daughter in private and a son in public.

As far as education and teacher involvement and over all interest in teaching kids the private is better. But way more work, hours more each nite. My daughter is exexptionaly bright and the challenges and advanced subjuect she gets there keep her interested. Also graduates almost alwyas get college scholarships...which the school helps you get and advacates for you to the universities.

My son is ver smart too...but getting him to study is like pulling teeth. He gets second or first honors ever time...but he gets mad and upset when there is more than an hours homework. He is also a soccer guru. He plays on an elite level team and honestly has a shot at some college recruitment. We encourage him to keep his grades where they are and practice his soccer skills and exercises when he is not studying.

By the way here is my son's schedule this week for soccer...Sunday training 3-6, Tues training 730-9, Thurs nite playoff touney for his indoor league (3 games), Friday nite first round of the NCS State Cup Tourney in Phila, leave Phila for Baltimore for a 2 day tourney of 2 games each day.

:o

Where would you have time to study

If it wasn't for the social repercussions, I would home school when I have kids.

Much agreed

The school system does not want you to home school nor does the big brother, this is a myth on social repercussions, how else can they scare you? they want to keep your money in the schools.

X2 On homeschooling. I think homeschooling is one of the best forms of education if the parents are really willing to help teach their children. One thing I have noticed about every home schooler I have met is that home schooled children are far, and by large, more mature than their publicly or privately educated counterparts. I much prefer the company of people three or four times my age than any teenager;mainly, because I can carry on an intelligent conversation about politics, religion, music (bluegrass .!), or, most importantly, fishing... Another reason I throughly believe that homeschooling is a preferably alternative to public or private education is this: Your children won't have near as much peer pressure to do less the reputable things ie.. drinking, drugs, fornication, etc...etc... I am completely convinced that being home schooled does have social reciprocations, and they are all favorable.

BTW Captain Obvius I truly prefer to wear a dress shirt and slacks for "Casual clothing" unless I'm fishing..

So do I when the occasion calls for it but at home I'm just a jeans/shorts t-shirt kinda guy.....What ever works for you man ;)

We need to be careful when we make blanket statements ie. I would home school except for the social ramifications and social ramifications from home schooling are "all" favorable.   I know wonderfully balanced kids/adults who are/were home schooled and I know kids/adults who don't have some of the social skills most would desire to operate in the world we live.

We Home school and this is our song!

14 Days of Home Schooling

On the first day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "Can you homeschool legally?"

On the second day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "Are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"

On the third day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "Do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"

On the fourth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "What about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"

On the fifth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "YOU ARE SO STRANGE! What about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"

On the sixth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "How long will you homeschool, YOU ARE S0 STRANGE, what about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"

On the seventh day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "Look at what they're missing, how long will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE!, what about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, do you homeschool legally?"

On the eighth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "Why do you do this, look at what they're missing, how long will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE, what about P.E. do you give them tests, are they socialized, do you homeschool legally?"

On the ninth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "They'll miss the prom, why do you do this, look at what they're missing, how long will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE!, what about P.E. do you give them tests, are they socialized, do you homeschool legally?"

On the tenth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "What about graduation, they'll miss the prom, why do you do this, look at what they're missing, how long will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE!, what about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"

On the eleventh day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "I could never do that, what about graduation, they'll miss the prom, why do you do this, look at what they're missing, how long will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE, what about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"

On the twelfth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "Can they go to college, I could never do that, what about graduation, they'll miss the prom, why do you do this, look at what they're missing, how long will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE, What about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"

On the thirteenth day of homeschool I thoughtfully replied: "They Can go to college, yes you can do this, they can have graduation, we don't like the prom, we do it cuz we like it, they are missing nothing, we'll homeschool forever, WE ARE NOT STRANGE!, We give them P.E., and we give them tests, they are socialized, AND WE HOMESCHOOL LEGALLY!

On the fourteenth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "How can I get started, why didn't you tell me, where do I buy curriculum, when is the next conference, WILL PEOPLE THINK WE'RE STRANGE? I think we can do this, if you will help us, we'll join a sports team, and we'll homeschool legally."

As the father of two public educated middle school daughters, here's my observation. There are MANY parents who treat school as a daycare center. Boot the kiddies out the door at 7:30 unfed and unprepared. Let the school handle 'em. Put them into the after school program until 6:00 pm. When they come home, ignore them. Repeat process until the school year ends, the put them in the summer rec program. Awww, shoot, that only goes until the end of July. Come on September.....

...and New Jersey residents wonder why our taxes are through the roof. Someone has to pay for it all. Then the school board  says (with a straight face no less) "These programs are the result of grant money, we didn't raise your taxes!"  Hmmmm, I wonder where grant money comes from ?

All six of my children went to private school from Pre-K through 12 grade; why because they received a better education.

The problem with public schools is that Due to Political Correctness older translations of many books have come under revisionism, which is the revision of an accepted, usually long-standing view, theory, or doctrine, especially a revision of historical events. Revisionism is an aspect of cultural dissemination of misinformation.

Revisionism is the #1 tool of the Social Liberal Engineers of our culture for the deliberate dumbing down of our sons & daughters.

This response is political in nature and way off topic. This is not a debate of what is wrong with the educational system or conservative vs liberal ideology.

The initial question is private vs public preschool and is worth $9100 per year.

There is nothing political about my response, how do you determine which to choose if not by what is being taught?

Most believe public school is free, it is not...ever heard of a little thing called Taxes?

Exactly, it is not.

I believe they also get more funding with more troubled students they keep, unless this has changed.

If you can put your child under a teacher closer to a one on one situation, is where you get the most out of learning, with less distractions.

Public School is a sunk cost.  If you send your kid to private school you still pay for public schools so when determing the cost to send a kid to private school the amount you pay in taxes is ignored (public school is considered free in the calculation).

It's nothing but political......especially with a remark about social liberal engineers, which I see nothing wrong with at all. If I remember my nursery school days I napped, ate lunch and played.

What is free about public school is that it is open to anyone without an additional tuition cost.

I had to copy and paste some of those " catch" phrases to acquaint myself with them.....anyone else?

Social liberal engineers are what they are and that bothers you?

I don't know about private school but I am a graduate of public.  Our public school here is pretty good.  I turned out 1/2 normal.  I'm smarter then most and dumber then some. ;D

I don't know your schools in your area but for preschool I would seriously look at public unless you have that kind of money to toss out.
