Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted March 12, 2010 Super User Posted March 12, 2010 Guess no one does. Sorry man. I have worked with quite a few trainers before through football and various lifting activities. Most of the ones that made any decent living off of it got in with gym during the day and then did side work with individual clients whenever they could. Your body is a walking billboard as well. Always keep that in mind. Good luck. Quote
Boett43 Posted March 12, 2010 Author Posted March 12, 2010 Thanks, haha with nobody responding i thought maybe i should change my career path lol. Good point about the body being a billboard thing, never really thought of it like that Quote
Tuckman Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 The most important thing in the personal training field is to get the right certification. You can literally get a certification on ebay these days if you want to. Some of my friends went through the cheap and easy courses, and got nothing out of it but a piece of paper. I have taken an ACE personal Training preparation course offered through my college a few years ago, and it was great. I ended up going in another career direction when I graduated but some of my classmates went on to be personal trainers. The ACE certification test is extremely hard and comprehensive. Based off of the experience of my friends and classmates, it seems how successful you are depends first on the type of client you are able to target. If you live in or around a bigger city or a richer area you can make alot of money. If you live out in the boonies or in a conservative area then your prob not going to strike it rich. The personal training field is booming right now, and it is a job that you get out what you put into it. (just like all jobs) As far as physical education goes who doesnt want to be a gym teacher?...One problem is that it is extemely competitive job field with fairly limited pay. One of my friends has been job hunting for a physical education job for over a year. I know that when a position openes up in many of the schools, there may be upwards of 100(qualified) people applying for the same job...all this for a job with a starting salary around 30k/year(but summers off to bass fish ) Good Luck!!! Stasher1 Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 Many school also require phys. ed. teachers to teach another subject in addition to phys. ed., or at least be qualified to teach another class. Quote
baboosicbass08 Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 I'm going to school currently to become a personal trainer, I'm getting my associates degree in Exercise Science then I will be going to get certified. One of the biggest things I've heard from the gyms I go to is to avoid the cheap and quick certifications like the ones you can get online. Quote

bocabasser Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 i am currently teaching 5th grade and i love it. i am also getting certified in PE. the PE teacher at my school is retiring soon and my principal knows that i want her job. here is the problem though:http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/broward/fl-broward-school-specials-20100316,0,4926839.story they are actually considering cutting many of the special classes (art, music and pe) at the elementary level. i am glad i am certified in elementary ed, but i want to retire as an elementary pe teacher. only time will tell.
