I find it tougher to brush off stories involving multiple people seeing the same thing at the same time, although I can't say I've heard of any legitimate ones. Also, why haven't any events like these EVER been captured on tape?

Many strange events have been captured on video, heck theres at least 3 or 4 tv shows about ghosts, most aren't very good but occasionally they'll get a few seconds of video of something odd.

The shows on TV help build my skepticism.  They set out to create a series based on hunting the supernatural. I've yet to see one piece of convincing evidence that they've caught casper in the act.  They feel temp changes, they get flashes, they get invisi touched, heck they even get infrared stuff moving across hallways and such.  I want to see casper jump out and say boo, not just think I've felt him slip by.

I don't doubt these guys have had the experiences they claim, for all I know they may have caught Casper in the act. I just can't buy into it.

Aliens, now thats a good one to ponder over.  Ghost Aliens maybe?

I too can shoot a video of something odd, add sensational commentary, play Halloween music in the background, and claim the strange thing is the result of paranormal activity. If there were legitimate footage out there, we would probably all know about it.

You would think so but who would believe it ;D

My father-in-law lives in a pre-Civil War house on the old battlefields of Gettysburg, PA.

In the next couple of years, we have plans to purchase his property and build a new house. The only reason for the new house? I can't handle the baggage associated with the old one.

-There is a very "heavy" feeling upstairs that is tough to explain to people who have never felt it.

-They had to nail the upstairs windows shut as they would mysteriously open at random times.

-My wife (as a child) has a story of someone or something sitting on her bed, making a depression in the mattress. There was no one else visible in the room.

-The freakiest thing that has happened to her was that she woke up to the feeling of someone breathing on her, inches from her face.

Bottom line is - You could not pay me to live in the existing house. :-X

alot of time if you just build a new house on the same property, the ghost will just follow you to the new house.  this is actually common with haunted houses and new houses on the same old property.

i just wanted to add something awesome that i remebered from when i studied einstein heavily.  at the later points of his life, he actually was trying to prove that spirits(ghosts) do actually extist through math.  the farthest he got was the energy cannot be destroyed so he though maybe a small portion of a human's special(i forget the scientif name for this energy) energy may infact stay long after the actual person is dead.  just wanted to add this to the discussion.  there is almost no books on this or information about him studying it.  i knew an old man who knew einstein when he was still living that told me about this.  the older man was also a mathmatician.

I've seen lots of ghosts, especially when I was in college.  All were female.

I would walk up to what I thought was a girl.  Say something like, "Hey baby, know what would look good on you?  ME!"  Then I'd turn around to give my buddy five, and when I turned back around, POOF, the girl was gone.  Eery.

She's gonna get that no matter where you live, isn't she? ;D ;D

Call Ghost Hunters.

BTW, if I had a ghost in my house, I'd make it pay rent. Or at least do the dishes.

And maybe, it's watching you while you shower. :o

Ghost Hunters is such a terrible show. It's like monsterquest and ufo hunters. Nothing ever really happens, nothing new is ever discovered, and it's based on something that may not even exist. Refer to the southpark episode "dead celebrities" lol

You could set ground rules . Tell the ghost out loud that you don't mind him being in the house, and that some pranks are alright, but you don't want him to ruin or destroy any clothing, furniture, etc...

;D man you guys have NO idea what your questioning, I for one am glad you have not experienced a spirit, Being you have not experienced a spirit therefore you doubt, is totally cool to me. I wish no one has encounters of spirits.

You Don't Mess with the spirit world! Friendly or not, and ya shouldn't mock it either.

Man, I love this show.  Admittingly, every show doesn't have stellar evidence, but some shows really have stuff that makes you wonder.

Far as I'm concerned, the shows are for glitz.

I have not personally had a ghost encounter. However, my wife has seen her sister three times since her untimely death 10 years ago, and has spoken to her one of those times. While I cannot prove that it happened, I know that my wife is not a nut case, nor is she one of those spook believers. She is calm and collected in all circumstances, and she went step by step with me what had happened, very clearly and very vividly.

I have no reason to disbelieve that she has an occassional encounter with her sister. I will never dispute her, and she has come to terms that it has, and will happen again.

Who would want tangina over Ghostbusters? Ghostbusters come in, they may blow up the place but when they leave stuff is done.

Tangina, she comes in, men start peeling their faces off, coffins pop up in the swimming pool and hallway, and your entire house is pulled into the tenth level of hell.

LOL. Sounds like a fun time man. I have been in a few houses, I have had suspicions about. There are those that have so much history in them, you can feel it when you walk into them. There have been 3 houses I have been in with such a feel to them. All 3 I was told by the owners afterwards they had suspicious events going on.

I have not formed an opinion either way. I will say I have seen/heard things in homes I cannot explain in any way shape or form.

As for the Scify channel Ghosthunters. I thought it was intriguing till I saw some outtakes that were on Youtube (not sure if they are still there, could not find them again to post a link), where they were pretty much making crap up.

Great replies and stories, guys.

Just to let you know, the ghost has been running my line stripper from time to time.

I finally moved it and told him to lay off.

So far, it has worked.  :)

At one time we had a ghost but fortunately for us he had a very serious altercation with the Tooth Fairy and has not been seen since.

There is a show "Paranormal State" on A+E I think. They would be interested in this...

As far as the nah sayers, if you believe in God, than you must believe in the Devil. I would think "spirits" would have a place in this realm. Just like people believe we are the only people in the universe, I think things like this are outside of our comprehension. Remember..folks thought the world was flat at one time. :)

And all of these posts sharing "experiences" of ghosts are the reason that the movie Paranormal Activity scared me. I know it's a fake movie, but I believe things like that go on.

I personally have never encountered one, thankfully, but my grandma has told me a couple stories but only one I can remember clearly. She told me this after I watched Paranormal Activity because I joked with my mom saying I was going to buy a wigi? board. Well even though I wouldn't just because I was too scared myself, it scared my mom so bad she told my grandma.

Well my grandma, who would not lie to me about something like this, especially at my age, told me about her friend that she worked with. My grandmothers friend was married to a man that loved magic, just as a hobby. He loved all that fake stuff where you trick them and did little fake shows every now and then. Well there was a like magician convention thing going on and him and my grandmas friend went to it.

Well there was a shop there where you could buy all of these magic things and my grandmas friend noticed a book titled, How to have everything you want. She thought it was funny and bought it and started reading it. At the beginning the book said something about how you must read every single chapter for it to work. Well she started reading it and read it for a while and then she got to the second to last chapter. At the end of this chapter is said now on the next chapter you will feel a presence with you in the room and to keep reading until you finish the last chapter.

My grandmas friend of course like anyone thought it was a joke so the next night she started reading the last chapter, and she felt like something was there with her. She was so scared she stopped reading right after she felt that presence and threw the book away.

I always believed in ghosts and stuff like that before, but my grandma just made me scared of it. ;D

Also would like to add, Steven Spielberg, I think. Maybe it was some other big shot producer. Anyways he got a copy of Paranormal Activity to check out, and while he was watching it a door in his house slammed. It scared him so bad he took the DVD out side and threw it away in his trash can.

I am not sure yet if I believe in ghosts or not, but it definitely does interest me. I love hearing the stories, especially the old time ones from 100+ years ago in homes from the East Coast

Hey, at least that's better than getting some unwanted rouge on your left cheek, right?

I was neutral on the argument until I saw ghost hunters. Now I definately don't believe in 'em! Ha. Those shows are RIDICULOUS. "Well guys, we seemed to have picked up a 3.4 on our ghost dwelling heat sensor gameboy which means that Robert E. Lee is HERE!"

What a crock.
