Super User Sam Posted March 4, 2010 Super User Posted March 4, 2010 You know, it wasn't that bad with the pipe tobacco smell in the family room. It is still aggravating when he sets off the intrusion alarm motion detector when we are not home from time to time. And my wife got kind of upset when he turned her chair around in her quilting room while she was in the room. But now he is putting a chalk type dust on my wife's clothes in her closet. Living with a ghost can be a pain. He is a friendly ghost and does not really bother us and we expect and no longer get upset with his shenanigans but I sure wish he would cut it out. And by the way, there were three cemeteries on the plantation where our house is built. Two were located but the archaeologists could not find the third one. I bet I know where it is. Quote
Carrington Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 i have only had one ghost incounter, but it was a very intense one. when i was younger my great grandmother died. The night after she died i woke up and she was at the foot of my bed. She only said one sentence and that was that she was ok and very thing would be fine. and then she walked out of the room. Quote
seyone Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 An ex-girlfriend of mine had a house we believe was haunted. She Lived in a very old house in Hulmeville Pa. that at one time was a funeral home. I never saw a ghost in there, but there were always strange noises that couldn't be explained. Most of the weird stuff seemed to go on in one room. Her cats would sit at the doorway of the room and stare at something but would not ever go in. One time for a controlled experiment we wrapped up her one cat in a blanket so it couldn't see where it was and carried it around the house. It remained calm until the second we entered that room. The cat freaked out and scratched the crap out of me. That doesn't prove that ghosts were present but it was very odd. Quote

Super User Micro Posted March 4, 2010 Super User Posted March 4, 2010 Call Ghost Hunters. BTW, if I had a ghost in my house, I'd make it pay rent. Or at least do the dishes. And maybe, it's watching you while you shower. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted March 4, 2010 BassResource.com Administrator Posted March 4, 2010 Sam - I've heard you mention him several times off and on through the years, to the point it doesn't freak me out any more (that says a lot!). I'm glad that you've found a way to live peacefully with him, and that it's a minor annoyance. You might want to try to figure out what the chalk substance is, to determine if it's something you can eliminate from the house. Take it away from him so he can't spread it all over the place. Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted March 4, 2010 Super User Posted March 4, 2010 Who you gunna call? Two options. Tangina or the Ghostbusters. Nope, she recently died. Perhaps her ghost could be more helpful than her human form. ;D As far as ghost go, they are real, and I've seen/experienced several full-body apparitions; from a little boy to an old man. I have a buddy who is a math/physics nut. I love it when he tries to tell me that ghosts do not exist, because it is mathematically impossible...it makes me feel so good to know that system is flawed. Quote

Super User Bassn Blvd Posted March 4, 2010 Super User Posted March 4, 2010 Sam, when was the last time your wife wore the clothes that she found white dust/powder on? Quote
Super User Sam Posted March 4, 2010 Author Super User Posted March 4, 2010 Bassin, She has not worn the clothes for quite a while. She told me that this has occurred before and she did not tell me. No big deal. We brushed it off and it is gone. I will save it next time and take a good look at it. Thanks. Quote

When I was in college, I cut grass for the county parks dept. One of the properties I mowed used to be connected to the Underground Railroad. I never saw an apparition there, but would always see things out of the corner of my eyes, feel as if I was being watched, etc. The original house from the property had been moved, and is owned by a relative of my brother's girlfriend. The two of them used to house-sit for the owners, and both have seen a full-bodied apparition of a slave woman. Quote
bwell Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Man I would be running out of that house screaming like a girl if I saw a chair move when no one else was in the room! Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted March 4, 2010 Super User Posted March 4, 2010 Are they real? I don't know. My wife and I have lived in three homes, and we've been the first people to occupy them, so I wouldn't expect to see ghosts. The reference to Tangina, was in response to "possibly knowing where the third cemetary was located" in an earlier post. That was the reason the house in the movie had poltergeists, and the furniture in that house moved around. Built on a cemetary. Quote

Same here. When my grandpa died I stayed with my grandma for a few months. About a week in I woke up one morning about 2 and grandpa was standing there in the doorway. I sat up, rubbed the sleep outta my eyes enough to wake up and he was still there. Neither of us spoke but we stared at each other for about 3-4 seconds, and then he just turned and walked down the hall. No drugs or alcohol involved; it scared the hell out of me! Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted March 4, 2010 Super User Posted March 4, 2010 My father-in-law lives in a pre-Civil War house on the old battlefields of Gettysburg, PA. In the next couple of years, we have plans to purchase his property and build a new house. The only reason for the new house? I can't handle the baggage associated with the old one. -There is a very "heavy" feeling upstairs that is tough to explain to people who have never felt it. -They had to nail the upstairs windows shut as they would mysteriously open at random times. -My wife (as a child) has a story of someone or something sitting on her bed, making a depression in the mattress. There was no one else visible in the room. -The freakiest thing that has happened to her was that she woke up to the feeling of someone breathing on her, inches from her face. Bottom line is - You could not pay me to live in the existing house. :-X Quote
I Love BassResource Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 I personally don't believe in ghosts, but a part of me won't completely refute the concept. If I'm ever lucky enough to have an encounter, I want the whole shabang. I want to see something straight out of hells gate. The kind of encounter that would make a grown man pee his pants. Quote

Do ghosts dwell on certain pieces of property, or in the buildings on them. Early on in the thread was a house that may have been built on a cemetary. "He is a friendly ghost and does not really bother us and we expect and no longer get upset with his shenanigans but I sure wish he would cut it out. Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted March 4, 2010 Super User Posted March 4, 2010 No plans to tear it down, Tom. There are about 7 acres of land and we planned on leaving the house and restoring it for historical value. I dont think it is legal to tear it down. The federal government frowns on such things. There is a placard on the house dating it back to the late 1700's. Quote
Sfritr Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 I had a buddy who's parents house was haunted. It too, was a friendly ghost. I remember crashing there and hearing his mom scream in the middle of the night. When we all went downstairs into the kitchen all of the cabinet doors were open except one. In the closed cabinet was an old glass bottle that they kept. It was found in the kitchen floor when they moved in 30 years earlier. They kept it cause it was odd looking but a cobalt blue color. Stuff like that happened all the time there Quote

I seem to recall reading about extreme restaurants that were "known" to be haunted. Those in the article did a thriving business. Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 I find a lot of these types of stories very hard to believe, and think the power of the human brain might have something to do with a lot of them. People living in these houses know the history and have heard ghost stories. The human brain has the power to create things in the mind that aren't actually physically there. For example, my mother swears she saw ghosts when she was a teenager living in her father's house that dated back to the 1800's, I believe. There was supposedly an old lady who would sit in the attic in her rocking chair and just stare at you. There were strange banging noises people heard through the night that were not associated with any of the functions of a house. There was an eerie woman with a flowing white gown who would hover around the attic and just look at you. Apparently a husband murdured his wife in the house about 100 years previous, and my uncle thought this last woman was the victim. Who knows. I find it tougher to brush off stories involving multiple people seeing the same thing at the same time, although I can't say I've heard of any legitimate ones. Also, why haven't any events like these EVER been captured on tape? I just find it all very suspicious. That's not to say I wouldn't be saying the same thing as you guys if I "saw" what you "saw". If I have an experience that is almost identical to seeing something physical, but it's hovering, and a ghost, or whatever, I don't know if I could dispute these stories... Fact is, there is a lot of weird crap going on constantly, and we don't understand it. Is it spirits of people who died hundreds of years ago? I don't think so. I think it could just be the trickery of the brain. Quote
Captain Obvious Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 The only ghost to be afraid of is the one between the ears Not calling anyone superstitious but I have no belief of ghosts and have yet to encounter any..... Want to note that when I say ghost I'm talking about the kind that people claim open windows or flip chairs..... Why would a dead person open windows or flip chairs? What I do believe is that sometimes God allows people who have gone before us to come back to serve as a warning......but that kind of ghost doesn't stay around, he fulfils his purpose and then is gone. Very,Very,Very rarely do they take on any type of form. He does not leave chalk on people or breath on them..... I'm not calling anyone here a nut case for believing in ghosts. I'm merely stating my opinion and only using the examples you guys provided. The real ghost have to do with spiritual things, and we can't go there on this website........ Capt. Quote
