I got a new Showdown fish finder for Christmas.  It opened up a whole new world of ice fishing to me.  I could see a 64Th (maybe smaller jig), and the smallest split shot, in over 35 feet of water.  I could see fish move up, look at my offering then either take it, or drift back down.

I went out with a friend who got an underwater camera.  That was pretty cool too.  We could see the fish sitting right next to our offerings.  While that was neat, the real interesting thing was seeing tons of bubbles rising from the bottom.  Oxygen I guess?

The fish were very negative that day.  My friend actually bounced his jig on a crappies head three times to get it to hit.  He got another to bite that way.  When he tried it a third time.., the fish swam away.

With out my fish finder or his camera, I would have sworn there wasn't anything down there. :o

Ice fishing with a camera is pretty fun. Here's a little video I made of some gills and bass with it one winter.

Those things are really something.   8-)

After fishing with electronics through the ice, it's tough to go back to fishing without them...kinda like DVR.  ;D

I've only just got my fish-finder this Christmas, I don't think I would ever go ice fishing without one.

It really IS that big a deal.  At least to me, it is.

I got a showdown last year, and it is amazing, I have turned around and drove an hour back home before just to get it, I really won't go ice fishing without it. My next purchase is a camera, it will at least keep the kids occupied!

;D ;D ;D I did that just two weeks ago.

FYI I bought mine about the same time.  I think it is the 3.???  Since then they came out with the 5.??? The new model gives you better interference reduction, and allows you to zoom foot by foot.  Here is the best thing..,you can ship your finder back to them and they will up-grade it for $50.00.  Contact them first for the authorization.  Makes you wonder why Showdown can do that, while Humming Bird, Lowrance, Garmin, and the rest of the big boys just let you twist in the wind.
