brushhoggin Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 growing up in the south, i was rasied to think european soccer was for pansies, but man are these guys hardcore. starting to find it more interesting than the american version of football. first off there aren't commercials, these dudes run their arses off, 90 minutes with a 15 min halftime. no run, huddle, run, huddle, just straight balls to the wall. also sprinting with the ball at your feet and passing it all the way to the other side of the field to someone elses foot without having to break their stride is close to magical to me. and hitting the ball with their foot and curving a shot in a desired direction is insane. and the fans, man oh man the fans. they're not gettin up all the time to buy beer and food, they're completely sucked in, chanting and screaming, you would think their life depended on it. personally, i'm an arsenal fan. anyone else? soccplayer07? i feel a bashin comin. ;D Quote
Skunked in DR Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Liverpool fan here. Love footie - along with hockey the only sport I watch regularly. I like to watch La Liga and Serie A as well but the rampant racism in sections of their fans is a real turn off. Can't wait for the World Cup - best month of sports there is. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted February 26, 2010 Super User Posted February 26, 2010 Its hard to follow, we don't get dedicated coverage like other sports. You have to know who's on loan to who for what cup qualifications, is this league play or first leg of some sort of euro cup play. and theres more cups to be won that really don't mean much other than for pride. So you never know if they go all out or rest players. Quote
Skunked in DR Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 What do you mean no dedicated coverage? You guys have ESPN2, ESPN Deportes, FSC, GolTV and shortly a second Fox Soccer Channel. That's a lot of channels dedicated to footie or with a high percentage of footie related content. Beyond that its simply level of interest - I'm sure there a people out there that know who's on their favourite baseball team's Single A farm team. Once you start getting into something these type of things become second nature. Quote
brushhoggin Posted February 26, 2010 Author Posted February 26, 2010 cool man city is sort of our allies. except adebayor. i absolutely hate that *****. never belonged at arsenal. he's a cheap egotistical drag queen-lookin donkey. 'pool to, love the scousers. not sure what raphy is thinking all the time though. only problem i have is that they dont keep players or managers for very long so alot of teams cant really get into a groove. also in english premier league, there are only 2 or 3 players on each team that are actually english. its good to see a few yanks playin over there Quote
Super User Dan: Posted February 26, 2010 Super User Posted February 26, 2010 I can appreciate a soccer game, but I can't stand all the guys faking injuries. It's ridiculous. If some guy comes into contact with another guy and then takes a dive I either vomit with rage or change immediately to something with higher quality acting. I don't know why, it just really, really bothers me and it happens ALL the time, especially with those trillionaire Euro leagues. Quote

NewAngler Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 Soccer used to be my absolute life. Played until I was 16 and injured my ankle, and to this day it still hurts to kick a ball. English Premiere is so much better than American soccer in so many aspects. Chelsea is my team. If you guys want to watch a good movie, rent "Green Street Hooligans" Phenomenal flick. Quote

quanjig Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 EPL for sure. Like Josh, soccer consumed me till I was in my mid twenties. ACL reconstruction is not fun, so after my 3rd acl surgery I figured it was time to stop. I still wish I could play!! Dan is right in that divers are ruining the game. I cannot watch any Mexican league game as it drags on with way too much theatrics!! I traveled all over the US and played overseas a couple of different times, I was lucky that my parents were able to "foot the bill" for all of that!! It's an awsome game to watch when it flows and two great teams play one another. It can also be a train wreck when teams are not evenly matched. The WC should have some great games!! Quote
