Super User Tin Posted February 25, 2010 Author Super User Posted February 25, 2010 That particular whale is a three time loser. Exactly, so why was the animal still being after the first two? It is just like when people get upset when a bear or tiger attacks a trainer, why are they so shocked? Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 This is what you risk when you keep a huge, beautiful, intelligent animal in captivity. I feel really bad for the trainer and her family and loves ones, but I also feel bad for the whale. Such creatures should not be held in captivity. Quote

It is just like when people get upset when a bear or tiger attacks a trainer, why are they so shocked? Very simple. Like the PeTA people, they value an animals life more so that a humans. Rather than put the whale down, you end up with a situation like this. They consider themselves Whalewisperers or something, determing the whale is safe after several repeated rehabs : Quote

Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted February 25, 2010 Super User Posted February 25, 2010 I think it is just a matter of trying to make money. Thats the real reason it was still there, probably cheaper to deal with it than lose it. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted February 25, 2010 Super User Posted February 25, 2010 This whale needs to be put down, it won't survive in the wild. Peta's position is that marine animals should be left in the wild, they also favor robotic animals for theme parks. Have yet see in print whether they favor animal life over human life. I like the shows but sometimes bad things happen as with the case of many dangerous occupations I'm not a Peta supporter, but they are not always wrong. Quote
stratos 375 Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 "this whale needs to be put down" Why? it's most certainly not the whale's fault Don't you think we've killed enough whales? true it won't survive in the wild, the owners should be forced to build it it's own sanctuary & feed it for the rest of it's natural life. done Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 This whale needs to be put down, it won't survive in the wild. You'd think they could ship/sell it to an aquarium or zoo where it would not be used for shows and have extremely limited interaction with people. Quote
Super User Tin Posted February 25, 2010 Author Super User Posted February 25, 2010 Should get it to enjoy the taste of snakeheads and put it in the Potomac. ;D Quote

Well said.....I don't agree with putting down an animal who shouldn't have been held captive in the first place. Let him live his life out in a big body of water being well fed.He at least deserves that for bringing in all that money for those greedy Sea World corporate scoundrels. Quote

Not a bad point you raise but now we enter economics. How much longer will this whale live and does the cost of new housing justify the expense? After 3 episodes of tragedy and me being left of liberal on almost everything, I still support the death penalty in this case. Quote

Since Sea World owns the animal they should pay for the relocation. You are responsible for the actions and care of you animal, dog or Killer whale. Seems this animal does not have killer intent. If it wanted to kill her it could have torn her in half. It may have been playful or ticked off and of course what would be a little nudge to another killer whale would crush every bone in a human body. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted February 25, 2010 Super User Posted February 25, 2010 There is a risk associated with all things in life. A guy died on the mound pitching in a baseball game. MLB still exists. No different in space travel, we still go to the moon, flying a plane, or driving a car, or training wild animals. The "crocidile man" died doing what he loved, working with "wild" animals. Prayers to the family, they knew the risk she took everyday, thats what made her special to her family, she was one of the most respected trainers in the business. Quote

FL Knifemaker Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 I will bet the whale stays where it is and continues being part of the show. No kidding. Quote
