LOL, You clearly need to watch more "great" Ovechkin hits. Especially all the knee to knee hits that could have ended Gonchar and Widemen's careers.

Like I said, a punk wiho hides behind his  tinted little visor. And if he continues to hit with his knees and low like he does, he will eventually shorten his career or someone elses. Does he deliver some good hits from time to time, yes. Is he one of the best hitters in the league? No way.

Want to see some great hitters, check out Neely, Chara, Scott Stevens is border line because he did throw some elbows, Donald Brashear, Chris Pronger, or even George Laroque.

And by the way, one of the forms of a charge is leaving the ice or jumping into someone while trying to deliver a check.

I agree not everything he does is great, but that does not mean he isn't. A cheap shot is a cheap shot and it should not be tolerated, but that doesn't detract from his clean hits.

I don't understand what a tinted visor has to do with hitting ability. In the old days a player was looked at as soft if he wore a helmet. Now helmets are required. Like I said I don't like cheap shots.

All of the players you mentioned are/were great hitters. All of them have questionable plays. Pronger is a great defenseman, and a tough s.o.b. but is know around the league for some dirty stuff, he has been suspended at least 2 times that I am aware of. Scott Stevens was awesome, and I am saying that as a Flyers fan.... but, and a big but, he was a head hunter and had a lot of questionable hits.

A charge is usually assessed when a player takes 3 or more strides or leaves his feet to make a check. I am not saying Ovechkin has never done this. Ovechkin often is seen leaving the ice as he is making contact with the other player. This is usually from the impact of the hit. No penalty should be called for this. If you jump into the other player you will get a charging penalty.

Me and Tin agree on pretty much everything, but this is one we will never agree on.

Ovechkin is a great hitter/player imo, and since he hit's so often, a questionable hit is bound to happen every so often. Where Tin is seeing him leaving the ice in what would be called a charge, I just see a check where he starts low and explodes upward and the force pops him up a bit.....

And Tin, don't even begin to say Brashear is a good hitter....he is the cheapest %*$&@($ in the league... ;D

And to prove my point, here is a great example....

Did anyone see the hit that Ovi put on Jagr at center ice.....ouch! To add more insult, right after the hit Russia went right down and scored (Malkin).

I see Russia winning the gold.

Alex is not only the best player in the world, but he is probably one of the best hitters too.

He is far from one of the best hitters. Look through compilations of his best hits and you will see a lot of the time he hits when the players back is turned and that player is defenseless (which should be boarding calls) or he leaves the ice and jumps into people (which should be boarding or charges). And to top it off he wears a visor so he can't be that tough, he is a punk in my book. If he played ten years ago before hockey really changed he would be getting beat up.

Nothing illegal about hitting someone in the back so long as they are close to the boards when you do it.  Boarding is only called when the person is off the boards by several feet and they fall and hit their head against the boards.  You clearly don't like Ovechkin for other reasons and are definetly reaching on this one.  I'm sure if he played for your team you'd have a different opinion.  He's flashy but not dirty.

Yea I cannot stand him. But they have really cracked down on hitting any player from behind when he or she is defenseless. I can just really see him ending someones career or possibly ending his own with his knee to knee hits.

How many times have you seen knee to knee hits from him?  I only know of two and neither looked intentional.  In both instances he was going for a legal hit and the players changed courses to avoid hits and their knees collided.  Like you said, he has just as much chance of getting hurt himself when something like that happens.  It's a fast game and decisions are made in fractions of seconds.  I don't think either hit was intentional.
