I don't know enough coaches to do this justice but Tom Izzo comes to mind. His teams are at the top year in year out.

Obviously coach K is a winner.

Who do you vote for!

Lots of good ones. Beoheim doesn't get nearly enough credit. Coach K, Izzo, Roy Williams, are all top shelf. I also have to throw in a couple names, I think Weber at Illinios is terrific. My current favorite though has to be...

Thad Matta at The Ohio State University. ;D ;D ;D ;D BTW, Weber and Matta have both had teams playing for the national title in the past couple years.

Baron of URI. Rams won again and will most likely finish the year with 25 wins and are there way into the Top 25 and are really up there in RPI rankings. They lost some great seniors last year and were predicted to finish in the bottom of the A-10.

Pat Summit at UT and Geno Aureama at UConn are two greats, albeit in the women's game....

Bruce Pearl's not doing too bad if he can keep his guys on the team.

Coach K hands down...And I absolutely detest Duke.

There's one coach that has won 20+ games the past seven seasons at the same school and monday will be back at #1 (which means nothing this time of the year).  Bill (ROCK CHALK) Self.     ;)

Agreed, Thad was great when I was at Xavier.  Every player loved the way he coached, I think he will have a great career!

Matta has really rescued a floundering Buckeye program. He recruits on a level with all other coaches in the country...better than most. He doesn't have a basketball school like Duke, Kansas, N.Carolina to sell. He is bringing great basketball players to a football university. Look for Ohio State to remain a top twenty program for many years to come....or as long as he stays with the Buckeyes. I personally think Ohio State is very lucky to have such high character men in Matta and Tressel leading their programs.

Coach Cal.....hummmm. How shall I say this? Great recruiter, annually has the most talent in the country. Leaves after 5 or 6 years of tremendous success and the program is then in the NCAA doghouse for the next 2 or 3 years, or more.  Allegedly, he knows nothing about the goings on in his programs at UMass, Memphis, and we will see about Kentucky. Great school, great program, I hope he doesn't leave it like he did Memphis and UMass.

I love how everybody thinks and blames the coach for all the recruiting violations,,,, I hope you all know that all of the recruiting also has to pass through the athletic director,, this is the NCAA's fault they need to get control on this matter and look into further details and they may just find out that its not all the coaches fault,, Plus coach cal is not the only one violating recruiting wiolations he is just the one who has gotten caught! ;)

Let me see, in your post you are both defending him and then admitting he is guilty of recruiting violations.

Look at the mess at UMass and now look at Memphis. What is the one constant????

Besides all that, the coach runs the recruiting, chooses who to recruit, and is responsible for the recruiting process. He is the CEO of the basketball program. As such, he is entirely responsible for everything that happens under his watch. It is not the NCAA's fault that wherever coach Cal lands there seems to be inappropriate ...things happening.

I also said he is a masterful recruiter, and a fantastic coach. I agree he is not the only coach in the country who appears to be doing some shady things, but as you said yourself, he certainly seems to be guilty of some recruiting violations, at the least.

Bob Huggins- WVU. He doesnt recruit scholars, but he recruits talent. 4th most wins in NCAA among active coaches. Plus he still got alot of years ahead of him.

Jay Wright...great coach.

Pitchinkid, I attended Akron University when Bob Huggins coached there for a few years before he went to Cinn. I knew him from his days at Walsh University in Canton, Ohio. I was friends with several of the Akron Basketball players when it was announced Huggins was replacing current coach who just went like 9-22. He told the players they better return from summer break in shape if they did not stay at school. I warned them that he was big-time serious, major league about conditioning. They were used to the candy-rear ended coach they had. When the next school year came around, those guys could barely walk. I had one guy tell me he was so sore he couldn't even pull his jock on. they were walking around like abunch of mummies. The following year, they went 22-7 and nearly upset Michigan in the NCAA tourney. The man can coach.

Coach K is good but not the greatest. He has had the luxury of gettin the best recruits always. Head coaches are NOT the ones who find the recruits either. They are found by the assisant coaches usually thru publications or word of mouth. I should know, my father used to put on the number one AAU tourneys in the country from the early 90's till a few years ago when the NCAA changed the rules and decided division one coaches shouldnt be alowed to attend these tourneys anymore.

I remember guys like Chris Paul working for my dad back in the day before they were NBA stars. They would work at the tourneys to make some extra money before they were seniors which is when all the shoe companies started payin them to play. I remember Lebron James told my dad he wanted 50 grand to play at my dads big tournament at cole field house in MD. That was LJ's senior year and he had already decided to go pro so he wasnt gonna play AAU events unless he got paid, which was very illegal btw. He got away with it alot. Yes that's right Lebron was gettin paid alot in high school to attend events and play. My old man told lebron to go fly a kite haha.

Take someone like Gary Williams from Maryland, the terps havent had a good recruit class in almost a decade yet they win 20+ games almost every year, never less then 19 games. They been to the sweet 16 a few times with average talent. They also won a national title with a very very undersized team. Being a good coach has alot to do with making the best with what you have. If you already have great players then it makes your job alot easier. I would put Gary williams up there as one of the top 10 college coaches in the last 20+ years.

Even being the Illini fan that I am I've got to disagree on the Weber deal. Weber's national tittle team was a hand me down from Self. I'm not sure that it wasn't even a hand me down from Lon Kruger(?)

Weber has had a lot of trouble keeping the top Illinois players from leaving the state. His team seems to be in constant turmoil. I get tired of him being in the media and whining all the time about the players not buying in etc etc. I think he is just mediocre.

  No disrespect to your post

Time will tell about Weber. He has had some tough breaks in the recruiting arena...Gordon to Indiana and Evan Turner to the Buckeyes. Looking past the recruiting, I thought he did a wonderful job w/ the national runner-ups a few years ago. I know he didn't recruit all of them, but they were still 30 some odd wins and 2 losses. Coaching certainly played a role in that. We will see how he does in the next few years.

No disrespect taken.

Hard to argue with the results Self gets at Kansas. I don't think the conference is great, but the Kansas team can line 'em up and play with anyone in the country. They are really good this year.
