Super User Micro Posted February 13, 2010 Super User Posted February 13, 2010 Some new parts and the whole flavor changes... Before After Quote
shootermcbob Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Fine looking weapon. Did you do the work? and did you have/do anything to the inside...smooth the trigger, polish feed ramp?? Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted February 13, 2010 Super User Posted February 13, 2010 what trigger did you install? Quote
Super User Micro Posted February 13, 2010 Author Super User Posted February 13, 2010 I did it. All I did was put in a new trigger, grips, and a shock buffer. The shock buffer is a Wilson Combat brand and is a drop in part that requires no fitting. The grips are Hogue Ivory Polymer. The right panel fit perfectly. The left panel had too much marterial at the top and pressed against the slide lock. The made the slide lock back even with no magazine. I had to shape the top of the left grip a bit to make it fit and not interfere with the slide lock. The trigger is a Nighthawk Custom match. This was quite a bit oversized - more so than other triggers I've fitted, such as Wilson or Ed Brown. It is not only a oversized in height, it feels a bit oversized in width. I had to take a lot of material off the top and bottom of the shoe. Polishing the sides made fit. It has next to no play and fits much better than the stock trigger. I liked the squared holes better than the round holes in most other tirggers. Quote

The slide action is already so short that the shock buffer will limit slide travel to the rear and cause feed and/or ejection problems. Been there, done that. They're a neat idea, but completely unnecessary imo. Definitely not recommended for a carry piece, either. Other than that, nice looking gun. Quote
Super User Micro Posted February 13, 2010 Author Super User Posted February 13, 2010 Used them for years on my Para 14, Officers ACP, 3 Commanders and several Gov'ts. Never had a problem. I've put them in every 1911 I've ever had. Of course, it will get function tested. Quote
The Unabasser Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Micro, I like the before better. X2 looks like it came from the ghetto now lol Quote
Aaron Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 Beautiful Colt! Although I do prefer the original look, it is still a beautiful gun. I need to find me some of those double diamond grips for my 1911 Govt. Quote
