Sfritr Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 How can there be ice, speed and no padding around poles? Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted February 12, 2010 Super User Posted February 12, 2010 I watched the video before they pulled it, man was he moving. I can only say that I don't think he felt any pain. Sad deal. Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 They just showed the video on the nightly news!!! And kept replaying it ...in slow mo and everything...Maybe its just me but i don't think the nightly news should be showing a young man dying. Anything for ratings i guess :-[ Quote
soccplayer07 Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Quote
Super User Micro Posted February 13, 2010 Super User Posted February 13, 2010 When has network TV ever displayed a sense of decency? Quote
Super User Dan: Posted February 13, 2010 Super User Posted February 13, 2010 whoa, I just saw the video too. It seems pretty stupid not to have any padding or walls or anything along the track. Quote
zero limit Posted February 13, 2010 Author Posted February 13, 2010 At 90 mph I don't think padding would have made a difference Quote
Super User Micro Posted February 13, 2010 Super User Posted February 13, 2010 I just saw it several times on NBC. Very, very tragic. And very graphic. Out of respect for the family and countrymen, I think they ought to refrain from showing it so much. They played it like 4 times in the span of minutes. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted February 13, 2010 Super User Posted February 13, 2010 At 90 mph I don't think padding would have made a difference but if they put a wall the whole way down the track then he would have slid along it. Even if he banged against it a few times it wouldn't be a 90-0mph instant stop. Quote

This afternoon just about all the sites said that they had pulled it because of proprietary rights, I'm guessing it was only proprietary until the money was right. Quote
Fisher of Men Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Very tragic incident. Unfortunately, the TV ratings on the night of running the luge contest will be sky high. A little plexiglass along the edge of that stretch would help. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted February 13, 2010 Super User Posted February 13, 2010 When has network TV ever displayed a sense of decency? During the Viet Nam War every network and most newspapers updated the body & injury count daily, that is no longer done. Quote
Super User bassfisherjk Posted February 13, 2010 Super User Posted February 13, 2010 Very Tragic,I agree with everyone else. They shouldn't show it out of respect for the family. Quote
zero limit Posted February 13, 2010 Author Posted February 13, 2010 They are calling the accident human error and have no plans on changing the track Quote
outdoorguy Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 This years games seem cursed. The torch malfunction last night just adds to it. Quote
