bkoguy07 Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 With all these jig threads I thought i would add one more, this one with a extreme detail. Post your jig setup, favorite jig color, weight, and trailer. Also post your favorite time of year for fishing them and where on a lake you find "premium jigging" areas! Heres mine 7' MH rod 20lb braided line any high speed baitcaster Manns Stone Jig, or Strike King's denny brauer jig either black and blue or watermelon. 1/2oz or 3/8oz I use the zoom super chunk (about to get the rage tail craw tho, people seem to love them!) the trailer matches the jig... Springtime is definately my favorite time of the year for them and i love fishing them around alot of brush fallen timber and stuff you wouldnt want to throw with an exposed hook! How about yours? Aaron Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 I use a MBR783C IMX for my jigs and soft plastics. It has a Curado 200DHSV with 17# Berkley Flurocarbon. I use a wide variety of jigs but stick Zoom super chunks or fat albert grub trailers. In the near future I hope to get a MBR844C as my jig/soft plastic rod. I occasionally use a BPS Bionic Blade flippin stick with a Daiwa Advantage for flipping heavy cover. Quote

Springtime is definately my favorite time of the year for them and i love fishing them around alot of brush fallen timber and stuff you wouldnt want to throw with an exposed hook! How about yours? Mine's very similar - I use the same rod type, same 20 lb. braid depending on the water. if it's an especially clear and low cover lake I'll just run 10 lb. braid with a flouro leader. only thing really different would be jig choice. I use an Ike's finesse jig, a swimming jig and some home made 3/4 oz. + jigs. colors range from white/silver to black to black/bronze with the occasional black/blue and black/red. for trailers I love the standard uncle josh's in white and black for spring and have been using berkley craws or doubletail grub for summer, but I'm fixing to try the rage tail chunks soon. sadly, most of the time a white/silver tinsel-tail roadrunner works as well as a jig here in colorado, even for big bass. also, swimming works as much or more than standard jig methods for me here. the swim pattern that has produced the best fish for me in clear lakes here is a medium speed while slowly sweeping the tip up and then slowly dropping it back down while reeling in slack. the jig's a lot of fun for me, though. I like how versatile it is and sometimes that super wacky retrieve pattern you've resorted to draws a couple of fish you thought were otherwise impossible. edit: oh, I forgot about the Beast! I use the berkley beast for a trailer often times just to get a little more movement and some wacky appendages on there to entice them. Quote
Big-O Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Oldham Trailer hitch or Strike King Elite model Jigs. Both have good hooks and both make Football style as well for varying your applications. SK Elite has nice rattle for night or muddy water. Rage Tail Chunk trailer for short compact presentation and a pinched down or full Rage Craw trailer for longer presentations. Big O Quote
Evan Pease Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 I use two. #1 is a viento spooled with 15# flouro on a 7'0" Daiwa S Rod, I use it for deeper jigging on points and other sparse cover. #2 is a fuego on a 6'9" carrot with 30# Power Pro. Ive not used it much yet but it does well with lighter jigs in shallow, dense cover.Sometimes it doubles as my small swimbait setup, too. I fish Strike King jigs almost exclusively any time of the year. The weight varies with the average depth of the lake Im fishing in. Quote
The_Natural Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Loomis BCFR894- this is labeled as a flippin' rod, but I hate long, heavy broomsticks. This rod is very light...it feels like a 7'6" medium heavy. Loomis 844GLX- old standby...it 'gets-r-done in almost any situation. Powell Max 734c (7'3" Heavy)- I haven't owned this rod a long time, but I am already very impressed. I thought it was a whole lot of rod for $170, but with the new $130 price point they are stellar. Reels- All are paired with TDZ105H's (thanks Cabelas 8-)!. Shame on you if you didn't order any when they were $199!) Line- I use 15lb Trilene 100% fluoro on all my jig and worm rods except for very heavy cover and grass, in which I will step up to 20lb. I also use 15lb Pline CXX in crystal clear when I think my fluorocarbon's advantages don't weigh enough for me to spool it (i.e. my tournament last year on the Red River). I use several jigs. My favorite flippin' jig is the old Berkley Power Jig (Jay Yelas) in black/brown/amber. The reason for this is the incorporated metal ticker rattle that is not too overbearing like the twin rattles that dangle from so many jig styles today (similar to the original rattleback jig). It also has a 90 degree line tie which I prefer. For football jigs I don't think you can beat the Picasso jigs...great colors and head design but they do not come with rattles, so I insert one in my trailer (metal ticker). In the finesse department; I use the Booyah Baby Boo jig in 3/16 during prespawn when the water is very cold (45-52). I'll move up to a 5/16oz Baby boo in 52-55 degree water. For heavier finesse jigs, I like the Jewel Heavy Cover football finesse jigs (5/16 and 5/8) Quote

dallas0996 Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I was killing 'em this past sunday with a 3/8 strike king watermelon bitsy flippin jig trailing a 3" Yum crawdad colored craw papi...I would say this has been my most successful combo to date; the water clarity is so high around my area, the natural colors seem to always work the best. I had 3 keepers take it and toss it...then I trimmed the brush guard...shortly after that I landed a 3lbr LM and followed up shortly with 3 1 to 2 lbrs... would have stayed the day but the honey-do list was tapping me on the shoulder..... > "I'm gonna miss her...." -Brad Paisley Quote
