Super User SirSnookalot Posted February 8, 2010 Super User Posted February 8, 2010 I was disappointed with Queen Latifa( forgot some words) normally I really like her. Carrie Underwood, how did she ever win a Grammy? If I were the producer it would have been Patty Labelle singing the anthem and the "Stones" at half time, they still got it. Game was good, glad the Saints won, and not the best commercials, if I'm not mistaken only Hyundai, Kia, and Honda has game time commercials, with 1 exception a Dodge ad and Chevy after the game. All in all, imo the spectacle has gotten too big and grand, I preferred the early super bowls from the 60's or 70's. Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 8, 2010 Super User Posted February 8, 2010 I also did not watch all of the halftime show as in the past they have not been that great. I must admit that the special effects were excellent for The Who. The commercials were OK. Nothing that stands out, but OK. Enjoyed the game. Only complaint is that we did not see more of Archie Who all upset during the game as it slipped away from the Colts. :'( Quote
Sfritr Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 RW I totally agree. I thought Townsend was going to break a hip or dislocate his arm swinging it around. Bet your sweet @#% there was some ben gay in the dressing room. Carrie Underwood, I love you and you have a place in my boat anytime but that was TERRIBLE..... Quote
ohioriverrat Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Man, some of you guys are HARSH! I thought the whole thing was pretty OK. Not perfect, but OK. The 'Who' was a little weak (you would be too at 60 some years old), but the stage and light show were fabulous. Hard to get current artists on something like that- you can't trust them not to do something stupid. The old men are at least safe. Most of the commercials were pretty decent. Maybe some of you guys just don't like humor. The game was a good one. A little scary at times, but good. I didn't really have a favorite (the Browns weren't invited to play!) but Sean Peyton is a he!! of a gutsy coach. I about fell off the couch with the onside kick... it was great! And once he let Drew Brees do what Drew Brees does, it was a walk away. All in all, I thought it was a good evening. Now we can bore ourselves with Nascar for the spring/summer. DayYawna is next weekend (but that is another thread). Cheers, Mark Quote

BassDeaton01 Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 That half time show sucked big time! My wife's grandmother (75 years old) even said they were horrible. I did like the little timer in the background too!! And I dont even think I heard a word Carrie sang...especially a wrong key...I was just trying to keep the drool from coming out of my mouth. Wow she wore those paints RIGHT!!! She could sing the National Anthem for every sporting event as far as I'm concerned. Quote
quanjig Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Common now, you didn't think Pauxatauny Palomalo (sp) wasn't funny??!! Quote
TheBeast Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Definitely terrible half-time show. But am I the only one that caught on to the fact that they were there because CBS was carrying the game and their biggest shows use their songs. Quote
Hookem Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 The acoustic guitar that Pete played during the opening medley, came from Collings Guitars. My brother and his family are neighbors with the Collings. Last Thursday while at a fundraiser for the Dripping Springs HS jazz band, I got to meet another Collings craftsman that said that Pete had come to town the month before to pick up a guitar. Quote

Siebert Outdoors Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Next year I hope its someone under 35 and not a kids pop singer. Quote
zero limit Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 I guess my smoking habit spared me. had to go out side to smoke at halftime Quote
Little Luey Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 ever since the Janet Jackson boob came out to "say Hi", the halftime shows have been terrible. This time I didn't even try to watch it. I watched a re-run of the biggest looser. the one commercial that was funny to me was the little Palumalu guy and the house made with the budlight cans. Quote
llPa1nll Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Was it great? No. Was it the worst ever? Hell No. I loved the Who, before my time but a great band. My only problem with their performance was Pete Townsend's backing vocals should have been turned down more. Roger Daltry sounded fine. I will give them props for this. Id rather listen and watch them do a live performance, than watch a tween pop act lip sync a pre-recorded performance any day. Kudos to The Who... Quote
D4u2s0t Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 did you guys see the drummer?? he looked like an orangutan on crack!! Only commercial I liked was the doritos with the slap, but that's been out for a while. Quote
Hookem Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 The drummer is Zak Starkey. Does the last name ring a bell? Quote
D4u2s0t Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 The drummer is Zak Starkey. Does the last name ring a bell? tbh, i had no idea who he was until I googled the name. Quote

Kudos to The Who... agreed. most halftime shows are by "so called" performers who lip sync. at least they actually played live. i thought they sounded pretty good. Quote

Super User .dsaavedra. Posted February 8, 2010 Super User Posted February 8, 2010 yay now i don't feel stupid for thinking carrie sang out of key at the very end of her performance. and yeah, the who were terrible. Quote

Super User Fishing Rhino Posted February 8, 2010 Super User Posted February 8, 2010 I can't comment on the half time "show". I never watch them, particularly the SuperBowl half time show. I switch to WFN or another channel for a half hour or so. I have a question for those of you "who" stuck it out. Do you enjoy going to the dentist for root canals? I did watch the National Anthem. The last note Carrie sang was so sour it made my lips pucker. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 8, 2010 Super User Posted February 8, 2010 The Who looked like what I thought they would...a couple of old buddies "gettin' the band back together." It wasn't what they were in their prime, but it was fun to watch anyway. I'm pretty sure Daltry's scream was a sample from the original, LOL. Quote
Stringjam Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Just my opinion, but Daltry and Townsend playing with a backup band does not equal "The Who." That band died a long time ago. Quote
