silvercliff_46 Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 I honestly feel for you guys down south. Us northern folks are used to ice, snow, and cold, but you poor souls, oh man. Take heart, you folks will be fishing for spawning bass while I'll still be fishing through a hole in the ice. When summer comes, and it hits 90 up here you can feel sorry for me. If this "Global Warming" gets any worse we will all freeze. Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted January 30, 2010 Super User Posted January 30, 2010 Sounds like they're taking a pretty good hit. Quote
lazeebum Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 Yes, we are taking a hit, but I can still make it to the liquor store, so I am good. I am in northwest Alabama so it ain't too bad here. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted January 30, 2010 Super User Posted January 30, 2010 I'm loving it......of all the times they pick on us northerns about our cold weather. It's called Karma! ;D Quote
Super User burleytog Posted January 30, 2010 Super User Posted January 30, 2010 ^ That's what she said. Dammit, that's my line. Quote

Super User firefightn15 Posted January 30, 2010 Super User Posted January 30, 2010 Yes Jake, we "unfreeze" at the end of March into early April. Quote

Putin' up firewood, Killin' deer, putin' up firewood, plowin' snow, putin' up firewood, and ice fishin'. What else you going to do in the north country in winter (November-April). FYI Ice don't go off our lakes until the middle to end of April, and once or twice, I have packed my creel with snow in the middle of May to keep my trout fresh. A lot of folks including me celebrate when the ice gets thick enough to walk on for ice fishing. It's even better when you can drive a truck on it, like now. ;D Quote
bass or bass ? Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I'm loving it......of all the times they pick on us northerns about our cold weather. It's called Karma! It was 72 degrees here in Phoenix today. Of course, you have to take pity on us from May through September, when it's over 1oo degrees! ;D Quote
tnbassfisher Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 The whole state of Tennessee is in panic! Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 31, 2010 Super User Posted January 31, 2010 Snow and ice remains as the temperatures plunged into the low teens overnight. The worst for fisherman is a repeat shad kill. Fishing is going to be challenging for the next several weeks even if it warms up. Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted January 31, 2010 Super User Posted January 31, 2010 Y'all drive carefull now, hear ?! Most people up here can't drive worth a d**n in the snow and ice and we get it way more than you guys. The laws of physics STILL apply in spite of all wheel drive, ABS, four wheel drive, etc. Slow down. Quote

The laws of physics STILL apply in spite of all wheel drive, ABS, four wheel drive, etc. Slow down. We drive in snow 6 months a year. Snow isn't that much of a problem. Ice on the other hand is dangerous stuff. FIRST don't drive on it! If you find your caught on it (like black ice) put the passenger side tires on the soft shoulder, and crawl along. When you get home STAY there. *** Black ice is an ice condition that makes the road look like it is clear, but is so slippery you can hardly stand on it...., bad stuff Quote
RAMBLER Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 I grew up in northern Wisconsin and lived in Michigan, before I moved south. In the Upper Peninsula we use to say we had 9 months of winter and 3 months of bad sledding. Now, I hear people from the north complain about how hot it gets here in Florida. You know, no matter how hot the sun gets, I have never, ever had to shovel one bit of it. Quote
Super User Raul Posted February 8, 2010 Super User Posted February 8, 2010 Man, it 's been raining cats and dogs down here, 5 days of non stop rain last week :-?, algae is starting to grow in my ears :-/, then Friday cleared up, clear skies, sunny and bright, screw the Super Bowl !, I went fishing, today ? well .... It 's getting cloudy again ! > Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 8, 2010 Super User Posted February 8, 2010 Memphis closed down again this morning, without any warning! The National Weather Service did not issue a winter storm alert until the blizzard hit. Unbelievable... > Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted February 9, 2010 Super User Posted February 9, 2010 If this "Global Warming" gets any worse we will all freeze. The heavy snow was predicted and many scientists feel global warming is the reason. When the weather is warm the atmosphere holds more moisture, then when winter sets in the there is a greater amount of snow to be dropped. I believe El Nino is out there which puts more moisture into the air. Quote

I believe El Nino is out there which puts more moisture into the air. I heard all the El Nino stuff I want to hear. First we were told it was supposed to be warm, and arid in Wisconsin..., NOT!, we had some real old time winters up here the last few years. It nailed the deer heard something awful. This year the "Scientist's" said we would have a warm dry winter. Right.. I have 6 face cords of hard maple up in smoke already, and for us we are only half way through winter. Twice these clowns have been caught in lies, and they are unrepentent about it. It's all about redistributing the wealth, NOT science. When ever something goes against their "RELIGION" they come up with an excuse. Why do I call it a "RELIGION" because none of it is really provable, and it takes a leap of faith to believe it. That's a religion! Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. Believe me I am NOT aiming this rant at you personally. It's just that everything they say goes against common sense, and their extrapolations are costing this country and the world dearly. That's just how I feel about it. Quote
