Super User SirSnookalot Posted February 10, 2010 Super User Posted February 10, 2010 Dan, the point is to think out of the box, you just never know what will work and what won't and try not to leave any stone unturned, I know you would agree with that. The important thing is to never accept one view or opinion but to get some education regarding a possible move in a different direction. Yeah, right. You make the same pitch as the snake oil salesman from the days before science was taken seriously. Beware, not every thief hides in the shadows. Magic cures are found or distributed by promoters. Scientists spend their careers working on medicines. Important drugs are only "discovered" in the jungle in movies, on TV and infomercials. Quinine is nothing new and it comes from tree bark. Has been effective in treating malaria, although you may prefer just to mix it with your gin. Early "aspirin" was derived from willow bark dating back many centuries and still is wide use today. The list of medicines that have their roots, no pun intended, in plants and animals is endless. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted February 10, 2010 Super User Posted February 10, 2010 Regarding "cures". Name a single cure for any virus, or condition. The only thing medical science has come up with are preventive vaccines. Can you say smallpox, polio, tuberculosis, malaria, diptheria, etc. The only true "cure" for any condition is our own immune system. If the R & D was done exclusively by the drug companies that conspiracy might exist. But, many drugs which "treat" various diseases and conditions are discovered at colleges and universities. The pharmaceutical companies then buy the rights to these drugs from those who developed them. There are drugs which are used to treat various diseases and infections, but in the end, it is the immune system which produces the cure. Somebody has been watching Kevin Trudeau, and believing his spiel. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted February 10, 2010 Super User Posted February 10, 2010 Does anybody remember the "Fish" carburetor. Appropriate for this forum, don't you think? There were claims that the gasoline companies bought up the rights to a super secret carburetor that would deliver up to a hundred miles per gallon, or even up to two hundred mpg. Conspiracy theories abound in every size and shape. Quote
