RobbyZ5001 Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Can any of us really fully understand how things are over there? They both need to eat.. If he can't pay for some other service I guess this is an option. I don't mean to sound heartless. Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted February 4, 2010 Super User Posted February 4, 2010 Seems he's doing his level best with what he has; considering what he has already lost. Sad Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted February 4, 2010 Author Posted February 4, 2010 I was thinking the same thing. It sounds crazy to us, but honestly, what other option does he have? I was trying to think of a better alternative, but couldn't come up with anything, assuming he has no family or friends who are able to watch the child during the day. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted February 4, 2010 Super User Posted February 4, 2010 At least he is working and trying to make the best of a bad situation.... That is more than I can say for a lot of the people I have contact with. Quote
JigMe Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 I was at China few times for accounting conference; this is definitely not new to the Chinese. I have traveled into small towns, and one place called An Ting, which they have kids on the leash like poodles. Parents have to work during the day, and can't afford child careI guess this is the best option they can came up with. It might be a repellent behavior, but they are tryingmy wife cried so hard when she saw the kids, and given all the cash away Quote

D4u2s0t Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 I don't think we should judge other countries for what they do, simply because other parts of the world are not like ours. Regardless of any recession, crime, disease, etc, we still have the best life possible in the usa. Imagine living your life in a 9x8 room with a disabled wife and 2 kids, and one of your kids is stolen while you're out supporting your family. Many of the women in our lives have shoe closets bigger than what they live in. We may view this as weird, cruel, etc. He views it as the best possible option, because without the chain the kid would be stolen, like his daughter was. The kid is not chained up as a sign of neglect or disregard, he is chained up as a last resort so he's still around at the end of the day. Quote
b.Lee Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 This is the kind of crap I am talking about, while Indianapolis is getting ready to take one day off after the super bowl, a man like this is chaining his son to a pole. O.o;; Quote

Super User Bassn Blvd Posted February 6, 2010 Super User Posted February 6, 2010 That kid looks like a doll in the photo with his rosy red cheeks. Why can't the father tie the kid to his back or build a 2nd seat on the bicycle? Quote
Korea_Bassin Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 That kid looks like a doll in the photo with his rosy red cheeks. Why can't the father tie the kid to his back or build a 2nd seat on the bicycle? Hey, I'm with you here...there has to be a better option available. Maybe not the easiest option, but life isn't set up to be easy. Perhaps he should have taken this difficulty into account prior to creating the poor child. What makes this more maddening to me is that the absolute previous post I read before this one was about the guy killing the deer in captivity and there was much more outrage over that incident than over this one. Come on people, let's get our priorities in order...please? Quote
Fishbone Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 I worked in China for some weeks. It's a hell hole. I was one of the first westerners back in after Tinnimum Square deal. I traveled through their miserable little villages going to the oil fields near Mongolia. They are the most rude and ill mannered people I have ever dealt with. They treat each other like animals. Consider the old guy who had a young girl for a wife (don't know how that came about) who kept running away. The last time he took her eyes out to stop her. Chaining a kid? That's small change over there. Quote
