Anybody bring an i pod while fishing? There have been times when the fishing is slow and I just wished I had music to listen to ( although I never brought one before)

Yep, I always take mine. I also take my Rigid radio. I charge my cordless batteries and plug the I pod into the radio and have jams all day with it. ;)  ;D

I don't use my ipod while fishing. Since I am out at the lake, I will take full advantage of it by listening to the sounds of nature.

If you do, PLEASE use headphones.

Maybe I am a snob but i get peeved when I get out on the lake, nice and quiet, maybe the sound of a passing boat motor, or something that belongs on a lake. Then some frikkin' yahoo comes tearing through with the heavy bass cranked up so loud that you can hear it 2 states away, turning the entire lake into his own personal rock concert.

I mean its not a library out there but jeese. sorry...a bit of a rant. I see nothing wrong with enjoying some tunes as long as everyone else does not have to enjoy them with you, lol.

You made a great point.

I am pondering a satellite radio in the boat. But as M Starr alludes, I will keep volumes low.

On the trout streams, nothing in my ears except the rustling of the leaves in the woods and the gurgle of the stream. VERY relaxing, better than any man made music.

...and really don't take my comments as nobody has the right to make any noise. The lake is there for everyone to enjoy and not for my own personal comfort. But to that end (usually ski boats, but some bass boats) I think it is equally unfair for 1 person to pull volume up to such a level that every boat on the lake and every house on the lake has to suffer on their account.

But a full day on the lake, during the summer I will got days 5am to 9pm or later, can be long and there are times I would fully enjoy some tunes if I had them out there. Sometimes, like at work, they may even help me focus if I am really working an area.

Don't get me wrong guys, I love the sound of nature and I enjoy it in the morning before all of the idiots are out. After that I turn the radio on and enjoy music. My music isn't loud, you probably couldn't hear it 10 feet from the boat.

yes, i use these things. very cool little idea. i was very reluctant to post a link on this site called tree hugger.com :-[ but for those of u who cant plug your ipod into your boats speaker system, this is a good option. they dont get loud either, just enough volume to reach your ears and not spook the fish.

i do enjoy the sounds of nature, but after 5,6,7,8 or 9 hours of fishing, I might want to hear something other than that . Anyway, I would use my ear-buds (no speakers). If I'm having a dry spell, at least music might cheer me up, and get me pumped !!!  :D

I have nothing against using the ipod while fishing. But for me, I dont get on the lake as much as I like to. And listening to the sound of nature relaxes me.  ;D

It might sound weird but I don't think I could listen my iPod while fishing. I have to be able to hear the sounds around me the sounds of my bait hitting the water the sound of the reel when reeling in. Everthing really. I guess it's the hunter side of me that has to be able to hear any sound that might give me the edge on the game I'm after. I just see it as a distraction for myself personally.

On the subject of iPods though I have over 300 hours of bowhunting and bass fishing podcasts loaded to my iPhone that really comes in handy while I'm at work and it's a slow day.

I have Sirius satellite radio on my boat so I don't take my i-pod , but my buddy takes his on his boat, and runs it through his radio.

I usually shore fish and almost never bring out my ipod, but a couple weeks ago I went out there and had it on me and just put my ear phones in and then never took it out until I left. I think I might start doing it more often, because usually from the shore the only thing I can hear are the stupid geese and annoying dogs barking. But I do enjoy when it is nice and quiet only being able to hear myself fish.

I guess I'm officially an old fart. I don't even own an iPod, and if I did, I sure wouldn't listen to it while I was fishing. I only carry a cell phone because the spousal unit insists.

What little time I get to spend fishing is part of my "quiet time", and I cherish that.

Since it's winter right now I'm doing alot of fly fishing and wading rivers so taking out the ipod probably isn't the best idea. During the summer if I remember it I'll bring mine out though.

Same here, though I usually listen to the Brewers game on the radio.

Once in awhile the local oldies or country station get play as well, but at a low volume...unless I'm drunk, then I get carried away.

I just like to sing for everyone! Lol.

I tried that, everybody told me not to quit my day job. ;D

...well that could be a good thing if you sing for a living. :)

I listen to some hardcore stuff, and can't listen to it when around the fam. Sowhen I get time to myself, I bust out the ipod. I usually keep one headphone in while fishing, so I can hear my surroundings.

if i do or not really varries. alot of times ill take it along for the hike into the woods.......(i shore fish) but once im in "the woods" outta the relative saftey of a well travled trail, its off. Ive fished with my MP3 player on before. but usually not for Bass, I like to be able to hear, see, smell, feel, and sometimes even taste the whole expierence........

i find it hard to get a feel for the bass if i cant hear the strike, or the lure, or something.

Plus alot of times, i use the time at the lake as my "therapy" and hearing nature is relaxing. however, when i fish a certain lake where theres an airfield, and the Goodyear Blimp hangar nearby, thats when the headphones go in.

Nothings more annoying than hearing the blimps engines buzzing for hours on end!

I did get the crap scared outta me once at that lake tho. had my headphones in, and two F16's came buzzing over the tree line so fast that i didnt hear them roaring over my headphones until they were well gone!   I guess they were conducting an Ohio Air National Gaurd Readiness Test and those Jets were so low they broke glass in the boathouse window!

SO FREAKING loud that i nearly dropped (ok...tossed) my rod into the lake on a cast i was making.

since then ive avoiding having the headphones in, and im always listening for jets, or gunshots of hunters in the woods.
