Win 7 is fine. It's actually where you want to be in terms of the Windows line of operating systems. Vista sucked, XP would probably still be my choice, but the folks in redmond will force us to march on via support issues and Windows 7 isn't a bad place to be.

We bought a new computer for my daughter and her family for Christmas that had Windows 7. Grandkids will make you do that sort of thing.  ::)I had it set up here at home for a couple of days while I loaded some programs on it. I have XP on my desktop and laptop, and comparing the two, Windows 7 was the clear winner in performance and cool features. The new computer does have a faster processor. All that to say I like the new system. 8-)

I have Windows 98, Windows XP, Windown Vista, and Windows 7. Of the four, Vista is the most intrusive and failure prone.

My biggest problem with Vista and 7 is the incompatability of some older software that I use a lot.

I have upgraded my laptop to windows 7, and my iPhone won't sync. Also, I can't disable hibernation, which is a pain in the butt. After many hours of diagnose, I went back to XP. :P

Lee, you can't disable hibernation? That's odd. It's in my power management settings just like it was for Vista. (at least on my laptop)

I've had 7 for a few months and it is fine. I really like the "pin to taskbar" feature.

You can use the XP compatible mode for older software on Windows 7.

Did you upgrade to XP or a fresh install of Windows 7. Microsoft recommends that you do a clean install of Windows 7. I have been running a windows 7 machine for almost a year now. I had the Beta before the final release and about a month ago got the real Release and haven't had any problems with older business application with the exception of program and a problem with multiple HP drivers that I finally got figured out.

If you can I would backup all my files from XP and reinstall a clean full Version of Windows 7 not an upgrade. You also may want to download the drivers for your Wireless internet adapter and network adapter, can be a pain if they don't load automatically and you have to find another computer to download the drivers on.

I am syncing my iPhone on my Windows 7 machine. Try a Full Install of Windows 7.

I have contacted Microsoft regards to my iphone problems, and they even recognized it. The explanation from Microsoft is a 64bit windows 7 system is based on P55 chipset. And my iphone can't stay connected. It will give me an error code "unknown error, 0xE8000065."

I have installed the windows 7 with a full format of C, and it will connect if I keep trying it. But I don't think it is worth the trouble for me to figure this out.

If you want to turn it off permanently, you would need to launch REGEDIT and set your HibernateEnable to zero. If not, huberfil.sys will just stay in your system, and taken up a good portion of your C dirve. It is not like windows XP, if you turn it off in your control panel, and then you are all set. For window 7, you will have to do it manually.

?

I just change my power settings to never go to sleep or turn the hard disk off whenever the laptop is plugged in? Is there a difference in that and the hibernation you are talking about?

I have had all version of windows since 95. Now I had little problem with Vista, almost even liked it. The key to Vista was, you needed to have upgraded hardware. Even then there was soo much new to the platform they had some bugs.

I got 7 now and I really like it. IF though you are coming from a XP world, it does take time to get used to what they did to the control panel and some other admin interfaces.
