Whats wrong with my rage tail toads

idk if I'm using these things wrong or what but every time the toad turns over and swims upside down.  also i have been having problems with the baits getting ripped up when i catch a fish. it seems that almost everything the toad slides up the time or gets cut by the line and then i cant use it anymore. is there anyway to prevent this? or repair my ripped toads? i love these baits they work great but at about a buck each idk if i can afford losing one after every 2 to 4 fish.

I have had similar problems but I believe it is related to the way they were hooked. I have adjusted the way I hook them and they will roll over once and a while when I run them over slop. I correct it by stopping the retrieve for a couple seconds and then start my retreive back up, this always seems to turn them back over so they run right.

The baits do not last long with aggresive bass and when pulling them through the slop but that is because they are a soft plastic. I can typically use these for multiple fish before replacing them. I only pay $3 or so a bag so they end up about .60 each which isn't that bad since I get a lot of strikes with these. I don't think it is a big deal to use a pack a day if need be.

From what I understand the toads are supposed to land on their backs and then turn over onto their belly when you start reeling. Usually, if my toad is running on its back I don't have the hook completely straight. I just started using the zoom horny toad hooks on my rage toads and they don't get tore up as bad.

ok, do you hook them so the bend in the hook is under the toad or over it

I always hook mine under.

I hook mine with the loop of the hook on the belly side and I skin hook the tip of the hook on the toads back.

For easy repairs on any soft plastics, I keep a tube of super glue in my tackle box.. will double or even triple a baits lifetime.

I've had the same problem and I know mine were rigged properly.  The RT Toads I tried rolled over or suspended on their sides, like one leg was way heavier than the other.   The ONLY way I could get them to perform correctly was when buzzing them FAST.

I know the RT Toads gets mostly good reviews and I'm going to try another bag to see if I get different results.

I had the same problem with some that I got when they first came out and was not impressed with the product compared to the other toads I use,the plastic was stiff and would not run right unless I burned it. but....recently got a bag of melon pearl which were very soft and pliable.They ran like a dream,perfectly smooth. I dont know if they were improved or if it was because I got a different color?? The toads I had a problem with were okeechobee and summer.

Use hook with a spiral lock, like Owner's 5/0 Twistlock.

If you can find some of the Mend-It or 3:16 soft bait glue, they work much better than super glue to repair the Rage Toads or any soft plastic.  Super glue dries hard.  The soft bait glue's melt the soft plastic and "weld" it together leaving it soft and flexible.  Much better results.
