frogtog Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Bought a lottery ticket last night thinking I was going to get rich. Didn't even get one number right. They call it the Education Lottery, didn't make me fill no smarter. How many of you wast you money on this? Quote
Super User grimlin Posted January 17, 2010 Super User Posted January 17, 2010 Not me...I used to do it on my old job where everybody would pitch in $5.Only when the money pot got really big though... ;D Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted January 17, 2010 Super User Posted January 17, 2010 Lottery..........................A fool's dream. Quote
Big T Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 I buy scratch off tickets, every once and awhile. The only reason they call it the education lottery is so that they can justify gambling to certain groups here in NC, but I will not get started on that subject. : Quote
JigMe Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 I play pick 3 once a while, and most I ever got out of it was 50 buck...but I have probably spent like 100 buying tickets...haha Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted January 17, 2010 Super User Posted January 17, 2010 Well let's see. $3.00 a week is 12.00 a month(15.00 several months). That's a lucky craft lure. No lotto here. Quote
fishinfewl Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 I probably wasted a total of $20 so far but it's definitely something I don't buy on a regular basis. Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted January 17, 2010 Super User Posted January 17, 2010 All I have to say is: thanks for the scholarships! I'll gladly take your money. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted January 17, 2010 Super User Posted January 17, 2010 All I have to say is: thanks for the scholarships! I'll gladly take your money. I'm quite curious exactly how much of that money is really getting used where it's suppose to be for. It's suppose to be going to schools as well....but i hear horror stories of kids that don't even have books in class. So it makes me wonder if that's even true. Quote
moby bass Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 PA Cash 5, only when the jackpot is over $500,000. Best odds of any PA game. Max of $2.00 at a time. I have gotten my "investment" back on occasion. Quote
Shad_Master Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 The lottery is a tax on mathematical ignorance Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 The lottery is a tax on mathematical ignorance Yeah but could you imagine winning $100M or so? 8-) Quote

Before the lottery, there were strict financial limitations on who could receive the help. Now, I believe almost anyone who applies is eligible, regardless of financial status. It's a fairly large scholarship, about $5,000 a year. Quote
aarogb Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 The sad about the North Carolina Education Lottery is that none of goes to education. The school I go to is still poor as it was before the Education Lottery came around. Quote

The school I go to is still poor as it was before the Education Lottery came around. You can't expect a lottery to raise enough money to fix every school in the state. The money does go to education, but most of it is towards new school construction and scholarships: http://www.nc-educat...y2009_page2.pdf Quote
frogtog Posted January 18, 2010 Author Posted January 18, 2010 I did have a have a guy that has fished with us for the past 25 years win a million dollars on a scratch off. He will get like 33,000 for 20 years. I thought he would carry all of us out for a meal, but instead he had his number changed. Quote
