Super User firefightn15 Posted January 14, 2010 Super User Posted January 14, 2010 I read last night of a passenger jet that took off at the beginning of the quake. By the time they landed in the states, they hadn't fully realized what they had flown out of. Some of the lucky ones. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 14, 2010 Super User Posted January 14, 2010 The United States has always and will always lead the world in disaster relief even to non allied countries, some we have been at odds with. The people in Haiti had nothing to begin with and now have less than that. Salvation Army, Red Cross and the like need our help now ! Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted January 14, 2010 Super User Posted January 14, 2010 They are saying maybe 100,000 dead. Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 I didn't appreciate the enormity of this tragedy until I read some articles and saw some pictures. This is just a terrible situation with many thousands of good, innocent people dead or dying. I wish them the best. Quote
bocabasser Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 a student in my class lost and aunt and uncle in the quake. they also can't find a couple of their cousins. this poor kid is only 11 and he has to deal with this. tragic man. Quote
CFFF 1.5 Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 While I understand the severity of the problems with the quake in Haiti and and understand people helping, but shouldn't the people of USA try to help their own first. There are hundreds of thousands of people loosing their homes and are really struggling to provide food and medical care for their families. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 14, 2010 Super User Posted January 14, 2010 My friend's nephew is missing there. http://www.wavy.com/dpp/news/local_news/vb-8th-grader-missing-in-haiti http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-382533 Quote

There are hundreds of thousands of people loosing their homes and are really struggling to provide food and medical care for their families. There's a difference between urgent emergency care due to a natural disaster and the social problems we have in our country. If we had an earthquake like that here, and one there at the same time, then yes, we should help our own first, but you're comparing apples & oranges. By the way microman, it's H-a-i-t-i. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted January 14, 2010 Super User Posted January 14, 2010 Most of the "struggling" people in America would be upper class in Haiti. This is a country where most people live on less than $2 a day. Yes, our government's first priority is us, but it also serves our interests to help others. Quote
Super User bassfisherjk Posted January 14, 2010 Super User Posted January 14, 2010 Terrible tragedy, not much else I can say. Quote
