Hookem Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 With the football and basketball programs at usc being investigated or have been ... It may come down to lack of "institutional control". Not good. Quote
bmadd Posted January 13, 2010 Author Posted January 13, 2010 Catt, I hear ya. I would love to have Fulmer back. Didn't really care for the rest of his staff he had and he was to loyal to get rid of the guys holding him down. We'll see what happens and who they can get to come in. Quote
fathom Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 looks like the usc "condoms" just got the perfect wrapper. Quote
1inStripes Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 I feel sorry for Tennessee's Athletic Director, University President, and who ever else had part in firing Phillip Fulmer who in 16 years compiled a 152-52 record, 6 SEC East Championships, 2 SEC Championships, and the very first BSC Championship. Y'all traded that for 14 months, a 7-6 record & I'm all that Lane Kiffin...don't y'all look stupid about now. No, it was time for Fulmer to go. Quote
bmadd Posted January 14, 2010 Author Posted January 14, 2010 So who do you think will fill the vacancy? Lots of rumors going through the mill. Muschamp, Cutcliffe, Calhoun, etc. Quote

Fulmer was awesome at getting a lead and letting the the defense go into a 'bend but dont break', prevent defense, where the score could be a respectable 32-27. That does not work in today's SEC. I don't know who we'll end up with, but from the AD's press conference today, it sounds like we'll know by Sunday..... :-/ Quote
bmadd Posted January 14, 2010 Author Posted January 14, 2010 Just saw on the local news where the Tennessee State Legislature passed a motion today to NOT give Lane Kiffin any praise for what he did at the school ;D true story Quote

Fulmer found himself in an evolving conference with new thoughts, new coaches, and new, more aggressive philosophies. Fulmer was a good coach- heck, still is a good coach. BUT, he does not have the mindset/psyche that it takes to bring a team to the field that can inspire the respect that UT ball once brought throughout the SEC. It's a different game now. Saban, Meyer, Miles...the list goes on- for the Vols to return to an SEC power, they need to find someone aggressive and willing to take things to the next level. By the way, Tennessee played two #1 ranked teams this year, Florida and Alabama-- and UT lost them both, but by only 13 points COMBINED (IIRC). Thats pretty good last I checked. Quote

Super User Catt Posted January 14, 2010 Super User Posted January 14, 2010 Volunteers under Fulmer: 9 out of 16 seasons with 10 or more wins & only 2 losing seasons; 2007 the year before he was fired 10-4 winning the SEC East. I think the Vols were better off keeping Fulmer Quote
Super User 5bass Posted January 14, 2010 Super User Posted January 14, 2010 I listened to a radio interview with Kiffin today and I have to say, I felt a bit slimey afterwards. :-? Quote
bmadd Posted January 14, 2010 Author Posted January 14, 2010 After watching both of his press conferences, I could care less about the guy. Would love to still have his dad running the defense but talk about being completely into himself. Geez. On another note, rumors are that David Cutcliffe will be the new head coach. Also, that Athletic Director Mike Hamilton is out and Phillip Fulmer will be the new AD. Not really ok with Cutcliffe but I think Fulmer could make a good AD. Who knows. Quote

They were actually 'in' some games this year against some good teams. In years past, Duke was done by halftime, if not before. Quote

bmadd Posted January 15, 2010 Author Posted January 15, 2010 Knoxville News Sentinel is reporting Cutcliffe is the new coach. Mike Hamilton will not confirm it though. Quote
VolFan Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Cutcliff would provide some stability and be a familiar, trusted face. And hopefully he could bring our "quarterbacks" along more than Lane of Phil. He'll need a good defensive coordinator though. Even when we hired Kiffin, I always thought it was like dating a really hot, really crazy chick. It's going to be alot of fun, but when it goes bad, you better hide the pets. Quote
bmadd Posted January 15, 2010 Author Posted January 15, 2010 Derek Dooley is the man. He has been the HC and the Athletic Director at Louisiana Tech. Before that he coached with Saban at LSU and at Miami. We will see how this plays out. He supposedly was Saban's main recruiter during the LSU years. He also seems to be pretty crazy on the sidelines and really get into the game. Could be worse I guess Quote
