bmadd Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Well it looks like Lane Kiffin has agreed to terms with USC and is going to take his dad and Ed Orgeron with him. Says wide receivers coach Kippy Brown has been named interim head coach at UT. I had some hope for the Tennessee program after this season. Maybe they'll go after Gruden now. Quote

Super User fishfordollars Posted January 13, 2010 Super User Posted January 13, 2010 My son in Birmingham just called me and told me. I told him he was lying, guess not though. I thought he had that program ready to really make a move. Sucks to be a Vol fan tonight. Quote

And you are not happy about this? I won't speak for anyone else, but yes, Vol fans (me) would be quite disappointed at this. Think about it- after the season the Vols just had- not brilliant, but hopeful and progressing (after what we came out of)- to go back to the drawing board again sucks. I'm not a Lane Kiffin flag holder, but he's done some promising things for the program and players. What really bites is that he's going to undermine recruiting 10-fold, I believe, especially if he's taking Monte and Orgeron with him. The Vols could have been back in the mix in a year or two-- who knows now. Really stinks. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted January 13, 2010 Super User Posted January 13, 2010 wow. that is a complete surprise. I didn't think he would leave there until he had proven himself one way or another. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted January 13, 2010 Super User Posted January 13, 2010 Anyone want to call Layla Kiffin? 310-428-9233 Quote
tnbassfisher Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Well, there goes our good recruiting class...... Quote
Big T Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Hey, I don't blame him for leaving. No disrespect to Tennessee, but it's not USC. Plus, he was an assistant under Pete Carroll so he knows the school and the program. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted January 13, 2010 Super User Posted January 13, 2010 I'm still waiting for USC to get slap with probation. Then I can really laugh at this. ;D Quote

Super User fishfordollars Posted January 13, 2010 Super User Posted January 13, 2010 I guarantee you Kiffin knows exactly what the penalties will be before he took the job. The NCAA will pulverize the basketball program and basically leave the football program alone. Maybe have to forfeit some of the Bush games, but other than that they will be untouched. He ain't walking into a graveyard. Quote

Mike 12345 Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 My vote for a replacement is Bill Cowher. Quote
bmadd Posted January 13, 2010 Author Posted January 13, 2010 I understand him wanting to coach at USC but his timing is horrible. Like Burley said, the USC football program is fixing to face some penalties much like Alabama did years ago. I would not be surprised to see them lose scholarships as well as any bowl possibilities for a couple of years. I don't see Bill Cowher making a move to college. I also don't see UT picking up Mangino, Leach, or Leavitt. I would like to see them pick up Gruden. He has UT connections, his wife was a cheerleader there. But he just signed an extension with ESPN so that is unlikely. Rumor mill is saying the Boise coach or the TCU coach. Both of them have had good offers in the past and stayed away so who I'm not holding my breath. Quote
Super User Sam Posted January 13, 2010 Super User Posted January 13, 2010 Kiffin is from Carroll's staff when USC went dirty so I was surprised to see Kiffin go back since he was involved in the cheating and the NCAA is having its investigation into the University of Spoiled Children. So Kiffin recruits more thugs to Tennessee and then bails, leaving Tennessee in the lurch. Where is Phat Phil when you need him? So much for loyalty from Kiffin. I am sure the Bama and Florida fans are glad to see the UT meltdown. ;D ;D ;D Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Rocky Flop anyone ? J/K ;D Quote
bmadd Posted January 13, 2010 Author Posted January 13, 2010 Phat Phil did his share of recruiting thugs too Sam. I wouldn't mind having him back though. I always liked him. Just hated the staff that he had and was too loyal to change. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted January 13, 2010 Super User Posted January 13, 2010 Last night when Kiffin tried to leave the football complex, students and football players created a mob scene outside the complex. Chanting "f you, Kiffin!" and many other things. Lot of my high school classmates goes to UT and of course I got lot of UT fans on my facebook and everybody status is related to cursing out Kiffin. hah. Quote

Super User Grey Wolf Posted January 13, 2010 Super User Posted January 13, 2010 Just another coach- doing his thing. Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 13, 2010 Super User Posted January 13, 2010 I feel sorry for Tennessee's Athletic Director, University President, and who ever else had part in firing Phillip Fulmer who in 16 years compiled a 152-52 record, 6 SEC East Championships, 2 SEC Championships, and the very first BSC Championship. Y'all traded that for 14 months, a 7-6 record & I'm all that Lane Kiffin...don't y'all look stupid about now. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted January 13, 2010 Super User Posted January 13, 2010 The NCAA may drop some sanctions on the football program but in the grand scheme of things, it really won't hurt them that much. Alabama is/was under sanctions and just won the NC. Oklahoma, same thing and they played in the NC game. Miami back in the day won a couple NC's while under the gun. USC will be fine....sanctions or not. It does suck for Tennessee though and I think Kiffin's a scumbag for doing them like this. Nobody knows what would've happened over the long run had he stayed at UT but he at least had the players playing hard and had everyone believing in him and his system. Oh well, what can you say? Did you guys catch his 'press conference'? It was about 60 seconds of blah, blah, blah, 14 months ago, blah, blah, blah, they're a better team now, blah, blah, blah. Thank you for coming, no questions....I'm out! ;D Quote
