Super User Bassn Blvd Posted January 14, 2010 Super User Posted January 14, 2010 I found this to be very interesting, even though I have not done research beyond what is being reported. http://www.itstactical.com/2010/01/06/are-your-tires-safe/ I checked my truck, boat trailer and wife's tires. If I read the numbers correctly then the tires on the truck and wife's car were made in September and October 2009 and trailer tires were October 2005. What I find odd is, IF I read the numbers correctly and IF 20/20 is correct in their investigation, then I bought my tires darn near the same month - 2 months they were made and the wifes tires were made in Mexico. Which basically means they were made, shipped, stocked and bought all in the same 2 month period. Quote

How is it odd that tires would be manufactured, shipped and sent to a retailer in a two month time frame? Quote
CanalStalkin Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 my tires must be old, They dont even have that kind of DOT number that I can see! I really do need tires though, these suckers are so bald and cracked. We call em Maypops. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted January 14, 2010 Author Super User Posted January 14, 2010 I find it odd that my employer actually bought tires that were 2 months old instead of finding some on sale that were 6 yrs old ;D Perhaps "odd" was the wrong word but I kind of figured it would take longer than 2 months from the manufacture date for the tires to end up on my car. Not complaining but I guess it should actually be pretty impressive. By the way, my wife suggested to her dad that he take his car to you for new shocks. She asked me for your number so he can schedule an appointment or get some prices. I don't talk to him much (nothing bad, just nothing in common) so I don't know if he is serious or just "thinking" of getting new ones. I'll check with her to see if he's going to call ya. Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 14, 2010 Super User Posted January 14, 2010 2 months for manufacturing and shipment doesn't surprise me at all. Maybe 20 years or so many plants & suppliers staring what they called "just in time shipping". They kept very little inventory on hand and ordered when parts were needed, they had the time frame down pat and that is why they called just in time. Being in the scrap business I saw this practice used all the time, even for me sometimes. Quote

That's funny, but Ill tell you what. PBSO and FHP they don't play around when it comes to tires. I have seen cases where an officer will bring in a tire that's almost brand new with a nail in it. Rather than repair the tire, they always insist on replacing it with a new tire. Even though the tire could be safely repaired. Quote
CFFF 1.5 Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 I'm getting new tires on put on my truck on Saturday. I'll to make sure and check the manufacture date of the tires. Quote
