Chad. Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 I am not a big fan of stiff weedguards. I have set hooks on fish with stiff weedguards and never got a stick in them. ESPECIALLY on hooksets that are far away.Longer casts ect. Every yard of line thats out there takes more power to set the hook. By the time the strike is detected-bend in the rod-linestretch- stiff weedguard = deferred power to the hookpoint- Ya have to find a happy medium- Sounds good i hope you can ship them out to canada asap i wanna try em out. earthworm77 Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 That is a nice looking jig. By the way, I equip my own with that Gammie Blk nkl round bend, it is a killer hook. I don't think putting a stiffer weed guard on a jig is detrimental to the hooksetting effectiveness of the bait. There are little tricks you can do to combat the stiffness. You can trim the guard, flare the guard and even clip a few strands out of the guard. Can you tell me a little more about the jig? I don't really buy into the fact that the guard needs to be clear, I'm guessing this was done to hide it but in actuality, the skirt should have little problem hiding the guard. I'm all for a good ole' fashion black weed guard of medium stiffness. But anyway, I like the looks of that head and with the Gammie.....killer! Quote
Big-O Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Bobby, I am basically a Jig-a-maniac because of my age and I forgot how to fish with all those other baits. You have terrific products. Appears you have a real winner with this new design. I'll be at ICAST as well and can't wait to see'em. Presently use Oldham, Jewell, SK elite model but I like the looks of yours equally as much or more. Will your skirt be placed above football shaped addition? If so, OH BABY you'll make some bucks off of me. Big O Quote
